This didn't seem to be the referee I saw last season and I was
an admirer then. Nothing changed for me last night but it was an
odd performance especially at the beginning. It was as if nerves
and / or rustiness kicked in. Things got better as the game wore
on but I did miss the penalty which appears to have been correct
according to folks here. In injury time, it was always going to
"kick off" afterwards, but he was brave enough to give it.
As for Goodman, he frustrated me with his comments when a
Bristol City player was rightly sent off in in the play off
semi final at Bristol. I put it down to frustration as it would
affect the game and it was spur of the moment but last night he
continued to make unfair criticism of the referee. Some may have
       been justified.
Kitchen will improve but I am not sure he is ready for SG1. Yet.
As for Ipswich, they were poor but Birmingham were very
       physical. Too much so?

Howard Webb on Sky acknowledging the disallowed goal sits in the
“grey zone” and they’ll analyse together with the referee.

If he had been letting lots of physical contact go before the
disallowed goal I’d probably say he should have let that go. But
he hadn’t, up until that point he had penalised all physical
contact, so there was no way he couldn’t not give a free kick
       there.

What a shocking advertisement for Championship football that
opening match was. Two poorish teams, a referee who (unusually
for him) had a shocker and dreadful commentating and punditry.
All rounded off by some boorish behaviour from Birmingham
players and supporters (not for the first time) at the end.
The match was whistled to death for the first 20 mins with every
bit of contact deemed a foul and this, I think, set the tone for
the match and although he eased up somewhat on the unnecessary
whistling, the damage was done. Birmingham were excessively
physical and belligerent and a number of incidents were not
properly sanctioned. They won't be able to bully their way out
of the Championship. Ipswich were short on quality and ideas and
fortunate to come away with a point.
       It can only get better.

I dread to think what will happen when Millwall visit
Birmingham…. two of the most vile and repugnant sets of fans in
       this country.
