Brothers-in-arms I take it rather than a familial connection.

Are you suggesting that refereeing is in Dire Straits?

At Charlton on Saturday we shall see the muscular Stephen
Martin. The Man's Too Strong in my opinion but he will be
Southbound Again and take a Ride Across The River to the Tunnel
Of Love at The Valley. Let's hope his performance isn't a case
of Money For Nothing and for Charlton it's a Ticket To Heaven.
What will be will be however so Why Worry.
Fixed it! bmb

I apologise JCFC for posting in your thread, perhaps someone who
understands these things can separate it out. I wouldn't want
people to imagine such drivel emanated from your keyboard

Worry not, Whistleblower. I would be greatly flattered - not to
mention very surprised - should anyone actually believe that I
possess such knowledge of popular culture.
PS Thanks for the "open goal" assist!

Is Dire Straits popular culture nowadays ? I am surprised to be
thought a doyen in such matters. I attended a Quiz Night
recently and warned the fellow members of my Team that I know
little popular culture. What is an Influencer ? Who are the
Kardashians ? My ignorance of such subjects is pretty much
absolute. Needless to say we lost to a team of youngsters who
understand such matters.

I sympathise. When I first began to hear mentions of the
Kardashians, I did not know what they were. A chain of islands
in Micronesia? A section of the Himalayas? A rebel organisation
in Chechnya? It finally emerged that they were human beings,
though quite what they are for remains a mystery.

I have looked up the Kardashians but I am unable to advise you
as what they are for ? Neither utilitarian nor ornamental it
would appear. I'm sure they love their grandparents and are kind
to kittens.
I was once dressed in full fig ( in the late and much lamented
Tom Lehrer's words " the quaint and curious costumes we are
called upon to wear " ) in the Strand and I heard a child say to
her mother as we passed " Mummy, what's that man for ?" Had I
been quicker in thought I might have replied " for justice my
dear " but that is probably too grandiose a claim to make.

On reflection, perhaps what the Kardashians are for is to be a
familial embodiment of alliteration. The subsequent question,
for which I have absolutely no reasonable answer at all, is what
then is the purpose ?

Hopefully Burnley won't see him this season. I really do not get
it with this referee at all, poor every time I've seen him
either refereeing Burnley or seeing him on TV. He didn't
disappoint again tonight.
