Thanks again, arabref!
Bit surprised that Ryan Lee is going back to Rugby Park so
quickly. Saw him in Killie v Motherwell; his fitness was good
and tried to establish a relationship with the players. He did
‘charge about’ the pitch somewhat and, personally, I felt his
foul detection (and awards) was very erratic. By half-time I’m
not sure how many people understood what constituted a foul.
I don’t know who does the appointments but there seems to be an
‘overuse’ of the tried and tested which surely breeds a degree
of disenchantment with officials reappearing within a couple of
weeks.
I have, previously, lamented the missing Graham Grainger and
both Colin Steven and Euan Anderson are not being allocated any
premiership games.
Iain Snedden and Lloyd Wilson who were appointed to quite a
number of premiership matches last season seem ‘relegated’ to
the lower leagues which is baffling and disappointing.
Rant over!

Can’t disagree with a lot of that. I’m a Dundee United fan so
will often look at it from that perspective. We recently have
had Nick Walsh at home to Falkirk, then again a fortnight later
away to St Mirren. Walsh is an excellent referee fully deserving
of his recent UEFA Elite promotion and I’m always happy to see
him appointed to our games. However, I’m not sure both of those
games required someone of his calibre, and a “different” name
could’ve been used e.g Lloyd Wilson or Chris Graham.
I suppose it is a balancing act as well though. Why should teams
only get the top refs for their “big” games? It shouldn’t be
beneath any of the Cat 1s to do a “lesser” game. This is
something I think that the SFA are slightly better at compared
to down south. All of the FIFA referees have done at least one
championship game so far this season - could the same be said
for e.g Anthony Taylor or Michael Oliver?
It does look like Iain Snedden and Euan Anderson have joined
Graham Grainger in being “demoted” though as they have both had
regular lower league games all season. Lloyd Wilson has had the
occasional premiership game (as well as Celtic v Falkirk in the
cup) so doesn’t seem to have fallen entirely out of favour,
whilst I think Colin Steven may just gradually be working his
way back from injury. He didn’t appear to have any games in the
opening weeks of the season, and has since had L2, L1, and now
regular championship games. A premiership game may follow soon,
particularly over the busy festive period.

No changes with ARs, but Ryan Lee and Duncan Nicolson both join
the FIFA list and John Beaton steps down.

I’m pleased for Nick Walsh - overall, he’s a class act and
deserving of his Elite Status. Surprised John Beaton has stepped
down since I thought he’d have 1 more season at First Category
status; this now means we hand no-one in this category. I think
last season Don Robertson was being pushed and had group games
in the Conference League but this season his European
appointments are few and far between. I would hazard a guess at
a push for either/both David Dickinson and/or Matthew McDermid
being readied for First Category.
As suspected both Ryan Lee and Duncan Nicolson will don the
white badge(s). I am assuming they are both quite young and that
was a major contributing factor to their promotions?
I wonder how much influence Willie Collum will have in UEFA?
Personally, I think his treatment by UEFA was shameful and he
was criticised on this site, and on others, for being no worse
than many of the favoured ‘Elites’. We have quite a few UEFA
Referee Observers (including Willie C) and I wonder how much
influence the can have on the Referees’ Committee?
