Declan Bourne seems to have had a bit of a mare this afternoon
at Plymouth… reports suggesting he nearly did a Poll and forgot
to send off Jack Shepherd for a second yellow.

Stockbridge with his usual whistle happy nonsense until there is
actually a foul, but luckily no major errors. Wycombe had a
handball shout in the penalty area in injury time waved away,
arms looked close to the body to me
*Edit* Looking back it’s a clear penalty!! we’ve definitely got
away with one

If that was his only error. Dreadful doesn’t come close.

Talking about dreadful…. Neil Hair at Salford v Crewe. Neil is a
ref who I really liked until today. It started in the 4th min
where he gave Salford a penalty for “a pull” in the box. Now I
had all eyes on this incident. Both our defender and their
attacker were pulling each other therefore you cannot give a
foul. Plus, I see this pulling every single week. Justice was
served when the resulting penalty was saved! Secondly, he was
very inconsistent with foul recognition with some harder fouls
not being given and some softer ones were. It got to the point
where a Crewe fan shouted at AR1 asking if that assistant could
referee the game!!! In the Crewe fans own words “you’re alot
better than Jack Grealish hairlike wannabe!” Neil also seemed
very picky on where he wanted throwings to be taken. And the 8
second rule he didn’t apply very well - he did it for some, but
not every single time. I won’t be able to give a view on the
referees performance next Saturday as I am away.
Although, under every game that Neil has reffed of Crewe, we
have won every time!

I watched Jacob Miles this afternoon. Rotherham v Port Vale.
I have to say he had a great game. Did not give soft fouls and
very robust with time wasting. Both red cards (one for each
side) correct and dealt with swiftly.
Good fitness levels too as he seemed to move around the pitch
with ease and always in the right place to judge fouls and
infringements.

Colchester United FC (First Team) v Tranmere Rovers FC (First
Team)
Football League 2
Referee: Rock, David
Assistant Referee: Bennett, Andy
Assistant Referee: Crowhurst, Leigh
Fourth Official: Kelly, Paul
A pretty mediocre start to the season as far as David Rock is
concerned. Fitness looked great, as did communication - he was
very animated at times I found, perhaps just excited for the new
season!
No major errors, just getting a few of the niggly bits wrong -
some throw ins going the wrong way and corners given as goal
kicks etc. My only complaint would be an imbalance as to how the
cards were dished out - it felt like Tranmere were lucky to not
have seen 1 or 2 more yellows for Smallwood and Jennings (I
think from memory) - even Solomon could have been booked before
he was.
It did feel like a lot of these minor errors went against
Colchester, but we let ourselves down too and were lucky to earn
a point with a spectacular finish. Don’t think i’ve got anything
wrong to say about the AR’s and 4O which is positive.
