The only one person Imo who could have got this opening game got
it, Faghani from Iran/Australia, it needed to go to someone
experienced / older …. Who would showcase what fifa want, and
would make the big decisions, this game on paper is tough,
American vs Middle Eastern so with Faghani Middle Eastern roots
he makes the perfect selection.
Marcinek is not pointless ?? It’s having a good 4th man with
him, again older and more likely to get the respect that a
younger official on the sidelines.
Bit worried for Nyberg if I’m honest.

I think it’s pointless - Faghani has loads of experience, so
doesn’t need a big presence on the sidelines and you’d think the
top referees would be better off saved for middles

It's just glorified pre-season friendlies, they don't really
need big name referees on the games whether as referee or VAR,
certainly not in the early stages. The TV companies didn't want
to cover it, the players really don't want to be there, and nor
did the clubs until FIFA offered Ł100 million prize money
incentives. And the USA public really haven't taken to it, FIFA
are now desperately trying to give tickets away to make the
stadiums look full. Tickets for the opening game went on sale
at Ł257, you can now get them for Ł48, that should tell you
everything you need to know about this competition.

Think I read somewhere that FIFA have now gone to the extent of
offering local college students tickets for Ł20 and that they
have also moved people who have bought tickets so that they are
in camera view to look the stadium look fuller.
