Indeed, best wishes to all. Should be a terrific atmosphere and
Dickson has much improved over the years as evidenced by his
international appointments.

Thought Luke would have gotten this - IMO best referee we have
by a mile - however clearly not rated by the powers that be at
home and on the World Stage
Good Luck to Karl - like the above poster has said, massively
improved and far more consistent now
Should be a great game

I don't often agree with Michael Chekia but today I have to -
Leicester were refereed out of the final. Virtually every 50/50
and even some others went the way of Bath, culminating in the
harshest of yellow cards for Dan Cole
The penalty count in the first half did not reflect the
possession and direction of the match, I know some penalties
were earned by good defence but only 1 team seemed to be
rewarded
Good TMO intervention on the disallowed try and the head contact
was a YC correctly arrived at.
It was a slow burner thar kept you hooked without being
scintillating and had the tense last few minutes you wanted
Over the season Bath have been the best side and deserved to win
- not sure they needed all the "help" they were given

Great credit to RCG for his customary level-headed and
non-controversial assessment. I will be a bit more direct -
Dickson was mediocre at best, bordering on poor. The scrums and
rucks were at times a lottery, in fact on another site I saw
someone describe his decision making as akin to “rock, scissors,
paper”.
I have never really seen what the powers that be see in him
unless they are using him as an example to other ex players who
may be thinking of turning to refereeing. For me he is someone
who is punching above his weight yet seems to be viewed as our
no. 1 not just locally but internationally too judging by his
appointments at the least World Cup.
And for me the whole situation is made even more risible as the
excellent Luke Pearce was a mere touch judge

I do feel for Pearce who has somehow fallen out of favour-
having lined both SF to Ridley and now the F to Dickson
As an Exeter fan we have never seen the best in KD and I have
seen him live twice and both times disappointed
Where as LP, CR and even Matt Carley have had good/v good or
excellent games
The game deserved better than it got today

I watched the second half and it was not particularly gripping
until the last few minutes. These are my thoughts. First it
looked a very hot day to be playing rugby. I know the Rugby
League officials do it but Dickson seemed to be perspiring an
awful lot in his overtight man-made fibre outfit. With my usual
caveat of not knowing enough to comment on purely technical
calls, I though Dickson's overall method of control was pretty
unconvincing. He didn't look comfortable, the players didn't
seem to show a great deal of innate respect for him and I got
the impression his decisions were somewhat random, even to
himself.
In terms of officiating style I would put Luke Pearce streets
ahead of Dickson so why he is not preferred I do not know. Are
his technical calls not reckoned to be good enough ? Is he
unpopular with the clubs for some reason ? Just speculation but
he certainly doesn't appear to be a favourite of the
powers-that-be.

Pretty much the performance I expected from Dickson
unfortunately - inconsistent and lacking in any real empathy for
the game - man-management ( despite him being a former player )
was once again lacking - didn’t spoil the final, but too many
pundits, knowledgeable people from within the game are
commenting today about his performance which should never be the
case
As i posted when the appointment was made, and as many other
posters have have said in this thread, how Luke Pearce isn’t
considered the best referee in England, and quite possibly in
Europe, is baffling - clearly he has upset someone in the
corridors of power to be constantly overlooked for the key games

If, and it's a big if, Luke Pearce isn't getting the top matches
he deserves because he has upset someone in authority then that
is plain pathetic. There have been times in my professional
career when I have nominated somebody for a major piece of work
even though I didn't care for them personally very much but
because their performance merited the appointment. Senior
appointments should be given on merit based on proper
independent assessment not because someone's face does or
doesn't fit.
