Surprised there is only var involvement for the english
contingent.
I guess that with only Oliver in the champions league final
group games it probably says that our officials are not in
favour with uefa.
I guess the pgmol going their own way on guidelines and
interpretations doesnt help either.

Idk about that. Kavanagh got a nice few games in UCL considering
he was only promoted a few weeks ago.
Taylor had a decent game last week and there is no elites in
Europa league this week so brooks was only option and he had a
game last week.

There are at least 4 referees with games this matchday that had
games the previous matchday in the champions league so it doesnt
preclude our officials from getting games on consecutive
matchdays.

Maybe someone has finally listened and given them a break! 4 of
them are away the following week at the UEFA elite camp, as
referees - 2 have games, 2 don't.

No surprises to see Kruzliak, Meler and Steiler on their games.
Great game for Walsh in what could be a difficult atmosphere.
Is his observer the same Kulbakov who was an elite official
until recently

Good to see lots of English representation this week in Europe.
Oliver in the Champions League and Taylor and Kavanagh in the
Europa League. Positive signs going forward for our officials?

It's Red Star - one of, if not the most intimidating and hostile
stadiums anywhere in the world. The ultras are completely
barking mad! No surprise to me they have sent one of the big
hitters at this stage of the competition. It's a ground that
needs a calm experienced referee.
The tunnel to the pitch goes under the ultra section and it's
very intimidating walking through it at any time of day, let
alone on a match day. I've only done it once, the ground had
just opened so the stands were still pretty empty and still the
hairs stood up on the back of my neck & I was shaking by the
time we had walked to the pitch side and back inside. It's the
only time I have ever been absolutely petrified at a football
match, and I've been to several games between Hungary and
Romania where the atmosphere is very toxic and intimidating and
is a pretty scary place to be. Granted I was there for the
Belgrade derby when it's at it's most hostile but even sat in
the posh, hospitality seats I was terrified.
I remember watching an early round game in the past 3/4 years or
so, Hungarian referee - Tamás Bognár was referee, the ultras
didn't like a correct red card (2nd one) he gave, the ultras
were breaking up the stand and lobbing bits of concrete and
bricks at him when he had tried to leave the pitch, one of which
hit one of their own coaches as he had tried to escort team ref
off safely. He ended up in hospital with a fractured skull.
Absolutely insane game. I commented on it at the time:
HTML https://ratetheref.createaforum.com/general-discussion-5/bognar-and-team-attacked-after-europa-league-fixture/
That is why there is a big hitter on the game!
The link in the other post doesn't work anymore but here is one
that does:
