Obviously he would have hopefully learnt from his mistake but
having Salisbury as VAR when there are other options, any
mistake could lead to a lot of controversy….
I wouldn’t be as concerned if he was AVAR, but you never know.
Everyone learns from their mistakes at somepoint!

And an important observer too in Cantelejo.

Thought Donatas Rumsas had a good game in what was a loud
atmosphere in Bilbao. Never seen him officiate before but he
looked good. Let the game breathe, let it be physical and
occasionally didnt fall for some theatrics.
Good to see YC’s for delaying the restart and, a typical Arsenal
trait, taking too long to take a corner.
Edit - Watched the other North London team tonight was less
impressed with the referee, Rade Obrenovic. Thought he was
inconsistent from the get go, similar incidents being treated
differently. No YC’s for a while and then they all seemed to
come at once (some of them not wrong).
3 incidents to write about.
1) Knowing UEFA’s handball guidelines, I was surprised that
Tottenham were not awarded a penalty in the first half after the
ball bounced up and hit an outstretched Villareal arm. No
penalty given on field and no OFR recommend. Unless the
guidelines have changed then I think this was the wrong call by
referee and VAR.
2) Xavi Simons was extremely fortunate to remain on the pitch
after a challenge where he made a careless challenge, bordering
reckless which I also thought was SPA. Villareal manager was
booked for his protests. (This would’ve been a second YC)
3) I thought Micky Van de Ven was also extremely fortunate to
remain on the pitch as, I thought the foul late on on the
forward was a case of DOGSO, the attacker had a good position,
in close proximity to the ball and I don’t think Romero was
close to enough to pressure. I thought it was a clear goal
scoring opportunity. However, yellow given on field and backed
up by VAR.
Two referees who in my opinion have vastly different
performances

Agree with first 2 points but not DOGSO for me by VdV. Player
going away from goal
