Guess what… Hackett has come out firing about Kovacs and his
performance. Nothing positive whatsoever was mentioned.
“The referee is the sole timekeeper of the game and you have to
have two equal 45 minutes minimum.
“I can’t believe that in a game there isn’t added time. There’s
got to be stoppages, there’s got to be some time-wasting.
“It doesn’t matter about the score. It’s incumbent upon the
referee to ensure that the appropriate amount of time is played.
So I’m critical of the match referee. He may have come under
some pressure from the organiser UEFA through television,
interviews, ceremonial things, and all of that goes, but he has
to carry out the laws of the game.
“And the laws of the game say that there’s a process and
procedure. I can’t believe that there’s no added time in either
half of a game or at any point in the game.
“There’s time that the goalkeeper’s taken, there’s time-wasting
there’s substitutions, there’s goals. On average you’re going to
allow about 30 seconds and probably a little more with the
amount of celebrations that take place.
“So I think they’re out of order. I think the referee’s probably
come under pressure and he should have resisted it, his
responsibility is to ensure that the game is 90 minutes plus,
and that the appropriate time is added on.”

Given that football is now beholden to betting companies I have
seen stories of punters who needed perhaps one more corner or
one more PSG goal (not unlikely to happen) for their bets to
come in.
As has been said above with numerous substitutions, 3 goals in
the 2nd half (with the majority of the PSG bench running over to
celebrate each time), the referee warning Donnarumma a few times
about time wasting plus a couple of stoppages for injuries with
the physios called on I think a minimum of 5 minutes, if not
more, would have been expected by most people.

It is just Hackett being Hackett. There is absolutely zero
chance that had he somehow ended up refereeing the Champion's
League final that he would have added on time at 5-0. If for no
other reason than he would have been blowing out of his derriere
and been desperate for a rest.
He's a hypocrite, no other word for it. I'm sure if people had
the time and inclination they could find one sided cup ties that
he added next to no injury time onto.

Pressure? What pressure? It’s 5-0 for goodness sake…

He means pressure from the TV broadcasters to not add any time
so that they can get to the adverts earlier. And whilst I know
that they do lean on match officials to work to their schedules,
there's simply no reason for them to do so here. There had been
no significant delays, so the absolute most added time there
would have been was 4 or 5 minutes which sits well within their
scheduling windows.

Does anyone know where they do VAR for UEFA games? I had it in
my mind it was done in a central hub somewhere but in each of
the club finals I've seen pictures of all eight officials
together with their medals, which makes me think it's done
somewhere at each ground.

I think he made a mistake by blowing for time when he did. He
has invited comment about his timekeeping as a result because we
all know there were some stoppages. Had he added just one
minute, no one would have batted an eyelid. In fact, outside
refereeing circles I am not sure anyone has batted an eyelid but
adding just one minute would have avoided any discussion about
it. The old "no surprises" maxim comes to mind.

I believe (and I am happy to be corrected) that they either have
a dedicated room in the stadium that is set up for the games or
there is a mobile TV Suite (trailer style) that sets up in close
proximity to the ground rather than a central hub.

He must be gutted that István was so awesome he had literally
nothing to whinge about, other than letting the winning team
celebrate a couple of minutes early and putting the losing team
out of their on field at least misery.
