Istvan Kovacs - PSG v Inter (UCL Final)

Short and simple
He’s made refereeing a champions league final look absolutely
effortless with no mistakes. A model of how to referee
(I know it was a thrashing but he delivered to the highest
standard)

There is, of course, no such thing as an ‘easy’ Champions League
final for a referee, the pressure must be immense. That said,
this was a game that was as simple for the referee as it could
have been. Credit for that must go to both teams, but also to
István Kovács and his team. He could only referee what was in
front of him, and he didn’t put a foot wrong. All YCs were
correct, Inter manager correctly cautioned too (I’d have
preferred to see him sent off on a SYC - but UEFA don’t want
that). All FKs nailed on, I genuinely can’t recall any errors.
It was nice to see him smiling before the start of the second
half. A final performance to be proud of, how far he has come
and how much he has achieved. One of Europe’s greatest ever
referees.
Bravo István!

Allowed an illegal kickoff to take place at the first kickoff
with a PSG player 8 yards in the opposition half.
Also - a shedload of substitutes and stoppages in the second
half only warranted 9 seconds to be added on?

If that’s all you’re complaining about then I think that it
describes his performance as excellent.
Do you really think Inter wanted to suffer another 5/6 minutes?
Do you really think PSG wanted to play another 5/6 minutes and
delay the celebrations? I think not. I imagine the 4O asked both
benches about added time and just said end the game.

Superb performance from Kovacs, and full justification for
giving him his biggest match in his entire career thus far..

What's the point of adding time at 5-0 in a cup final? No one
wants it, and the law of sod dictates that if you do add time
something unsavoury will happen during it. Can understand the
argument for a league game, but not a cup game and certainly not
a cup final.
Or do you think that Inter were going to score 5 goals in the
time he might have added?

It seems that the three men's European Finals this year have
been well refereed, justifying the trust placed in making the
appointments. I expect the bigwigs at UEFA are mightily pleased.

A very good performance, team ref can be very pleased with their
nights work.
Always in control and well respected by the players, hence the
serious stern face wasnt required very much.
Wore a nice colour to gain favour with his biggest supporter.
Well done and congratulations on being the first referee to be
appointed to conference, europa and champions league finals.

NOT slate the ref ! Disappointing post tbh.

On the 88th minute of the match I said to the friend with whom I
was watching, I doubt there will be much added on time , if any.
And so it proved. I remember another friend of mine, ex EFL
referee saying," extra time can be a hostage to fortune; if both
clubs want it to finish, then finish ".
