I tend to disagree, either the ball is in his hands or not its a
matter of fact rather than a referees call.

I haven’t seen the incident and I’m only going on what’s been
described here. If I understand correctly, as soon as the
whistle goes and then the ball enters the net, VAR cannot come
in and say goal as technically the play is dead and that’s it?

Yes that is correct, the questions asked are more that should
Bramall have delayed the whistle until the ball had entered the
net and then disallowed it if he saw fit, var then would have
had the opportunity to recommend a review.
Unfortunately Bramall was a bit Clint Eastwood.

Apparently Villa are putting in a formal complaint to PGMOL
about Bramall and his 'lack of experience'.
Reaching Forest levels of pettiness that is. Blaming anything
but themselves.

That as may be, but that isn’t what the law says. I know what
football expects here, and I don’t think VAR would be getting
involved had the referee given the goal either.
But going back to quote law the goalkeeper is deemed to be in
control of the ball;
by touching it with any part of the hands or arms except if the
ball rebounds from the goalkeeper or the goalkeeper has made a
save
So the question here is whether it’s a rebound or save. I’d
argue no to either. So technically, the goalkeeper is deemed in
law to be in control, and thus an attacker is not allowed to
challenge him.
As I’ve said a few times, I think it’s the wrong call, but
having made the call on field, I fail to see a way VAR can
really overrule here. The law backs the referee’s call…

I’ve just seen the incident on the you tube highlights.
If only he had held on for a few more seconds. Certainly a
learning curve there and I’m sure the error will be acknowledged
and lessons learnt from it.
Whether it affected the overall result is anyone’s guess.. but
I’d be very annoyed if that decision went against me.
However, if I were in Emery’s shoes I’d be more livid with
Martinez effectively downing his teams chances of top five with
a ridiculous challenge outside the box. A clear red card and the
subsequent controversy with the Roger’s goal is effectively
inconsequential.

Hopefully when they have calmed down a bit they may reflect and
decide not to, here is a villa fan hoping.

It appears they are to complain about the appointment of Bramall
to the game, sour grapes in my mind human error is part of the
game, perceived in this case.
I see our “ friend” mr Hackett says Oliver should have been
appointed to the game which really shows how much nonsense he
talks.

No way Oliver can be anywhere near the race for the top five. If
he had made a similarly bad blunder which resulted in Newcastle
getting the CL spot there would be an absolute outrage and
accusations flying around about impartiality etc etc.
Usual dross from Hackett. He should really keep his beak quiet
when making silly remarks like that.

I dont see what good making a complaint does, the game wont be
replayed as there is no error in law.
