Ah. That makes sense
I took you to mean that it was understandable that Mr Backhouse
had been replaced. Silly me.

Bobby Madley has replaced Anthony Backhouse as FO at Old
Trafford
Understandable
A puzzling comment. Could you please elaborate?
Understandable that Bobby Madley was chosen as the replacement
due to his previous experience as a former sg1 official on a
game with quite a bit riding on it for one team.
But there has been something riding on it for Villa since before
the appointments were announced, so why not put Madley on it in
the first place, if that's the reason?

I was not commenting on the original appointment and I have no
knowledge as to why Anthony Backhouse is no longer on the game
but as he has been replaced i think Bobby Madley is an
understandable replacement.

I also have reservations about John Brooks on VAR duties, as his
bar for intervention seems to be set relatively low.

Sheffield United will agree with you this afternoon!

Even if these appointments were drawn up a week or so back, it
was fairly clear back then that Liverpool v Palace would likely
be a dead rubber. So why is that match deemed to need 2 x SG1
officials, when two of those with Champions League places at
stake have an SG2 4O? From a Man City viewpoint, I am feeling
distinctly nervous about Jeremy Simpson in the middle should
Andy Madley pick up an injury, having already watched him him in
action for a Tranmere game this season. One of the weaker SG2
officials in my view. I also have reservations about John Brooks
on VAR duties, as his bar for intervention seems to be set
relatively low.
No such thing really as a dead rubber. There's roughly £3
million prize money per place, so £6 million, potentially £9
million with freak results, riding on that game for Palace.

Was maybe expecting a swansong for Graham Scott but considering
he is a VAR do we think he will go another year or maybe be a
full time VAR?

He did a League Cup match against Brentford in September 2023.
First Premier League middle from what I can tell
