I am not listing the poorer performers since I believe it to be
"negative". All referees have done well to get where they have.
However, Taylor has been consistently good and Kavanagh
likewise. Taylor lets too much go and he has issued the fewest
yellow cards but that is being picky and is just my opinion. He
has the respect of players and coaches. Kavanagh just does what
he should, quietly and effectively.
Of the next group, SG2, Kitchen has impressed me and I have
noticed his games because of that. Some have been difficult too.
Webb interests me because of his laid back style and what I have
seen of him suggests a fine referee. Where has he been?However,
I haven't watched many of his matches simply because he doesn't
stand out!
If I have a wish, an area of improvement for all referees, it is
sorting out SFP. It is being missed / ignored and VAR can do
better in this regard.

It is difficult to provide an exact ranking as I don't see many
full games, usually only highlights of big incidents.
Furthermore, I think events of recent weeks where, say, Gillett
and Barrott, have made a number of errors can cast a shadow over
a generally good season. On the whole my vague, general
impression would be as follows:
Have had a generally good season:
Taylor, Brooks, Kavanagh, Harrington, Pawson, Gillett, Barrott,
Bankes
Middle of the road:
Oliver, Hooper, Jones, Attwell, Bramall (just doesn't get the
games)
Weaker campaigns:
Madley, Salisbury, Bond, Robinson, England
Saying all that, I don't think anyone has been truly
spectacular, or exceptionally bad. I think officials like Bond
and Robinson are perhaps never going to be top EPL performers,
but who knows. Madley definitely seems to have been quite
notably below his usual level, Oliver too but he is starting
from such a high general level - and he has had a good season in
Europe. Any time I see Bramall, I think he deserves more games,
but the PGMOL don't seem to be a big fan of his.
On the positive, I think Taylor is refereeing near or at his
best at present. It is a shame that in Europe 'politics', for
want of a better term, results in him flying under the radar for
now. I think Brooks has established himself as a clear top
performer. Harrington was a surprise for me, he was really good
whenever I saw him, I hope he gets more games. Great season for
Bankes who has seen more regular appointments in higher profile
games that usual. I think Barrott started off really well, has
very rapidly established himself as one of the top officials
within SG1, but, I think he still has a way to go in his
development - naturally, he hasn't been around long! Gillett and
Pawson have been pretty reliable as usual.
On the whole I think it has been an improved season for the
PGMOL, fewer scandals and massive errors (on the pitch anyway).
I still think they can't seem to get VAR right compared to UEFA
competitions (the standardized comms terminology really seems to
have slipped a bit too), the recognition of SFP, or at least the
application of the SFP law, is at best inconsistent and at worst
inexplicable. Dissent is still tolerated far, far too much,
though probably less than 2/3 seasons ago.
Of the new referees, from what I have seen I'd rate Josh Smith
higher than Lewis Smith, Andrew Kitchen seems a good prospect
and I'd have no issue if David Webb were promoted, though I
haven't seen very much of him, when I have, I felt he looks the
part.
Finally, as he did referee this season, I'd like to spare a
thought for David Coote, I hope he is doing well.

Agreed on Alex and Sunny, and I'll add Paul Marsden (Crewe v
Grimsby) to the list of poor performers. I thought Martin Coy
was just right for the key Crewe v Port Vale promotion derby
which we lost. Some other reasonable performers but they don't
include any on your list (I don't think I was there to see any
of them anyway).

I would've put Kavanagh and Gillett in the same boat, but even
as a fellow countryman now, I can't forgive Gillett for that non
OFR in the FA Cup Final and I hope he struggles to get Vegemite
in England even more now [emoji13]
Kavanagh has had a few games where I've thought he could really
stake a claim to break up the Taylor/Oliver duopoly. Maybe
another solid season from him next season and we could see him
there.

I heard Chris Foy pronounce it properly in a radio interview a
few months ago
