       Rugby World Cup 2025 (Womens)
By: RCG Date: May 16, 2025, 8:50 am

Congratulations to Sara Cox (referee), Holly Wood (AR) and Ian
       Tempest (TMO) for their appointments
For Sara this is her 4th WWC - all things being equal she should
       get a SF
Lots of experience amongst the other referees with at least 6 in
with a good chance of the final, depending on how their nation
       progresses

Wonderful atmosphere. Convincing England performance, some
excellent tries. USA worked hard but had no real answers to pace
and the quality England have out wide
It was a relatively easy game to referee and I felt ABT judged
her involvement well. Scrums were initially a mess but she spoke
to the key combatants and at least then the scrums stayed up,
albeit often going backwards and around for the US. Wouldn't
have taken too many more scrums to have seen a YC as both USA
       front rows were warned.
She marshalled the offside line well and highlighted an area
England will have to work on. Unfortunately she had just turned
away when the US12 joined a ruck illegally and chose to play the
Eng9 in close proximity. Good (and sole overt intervention) by
TMO - it was a YC
Aimee can be pleased with her game; there will be more difficult
       games to come
       Over 42000 present, great atmosphere

Stephen Jones in the Sunday Times was scathing of the referee.
She benefitted England and disadvantaged USA especially at the
breakdown and the offside line. In his view England were
repeatedly allowed to go offside closing down space making it
harder for the USA to do something with the ball. Maybe England
with their experience were more street wise and I would say that
policing the offside line is the hardest thing to judge.
Officials often get it wrong but so do spectators and,
       journalists.
I cannot comment as I have no interest in one sided contests and
therefore haven't watched the early rounds.

       4 very decent performances today
Top of the shop - first close game USA v AUS superbly refereed
by Sara Cox, consistent, very clear instructions, clearly
       respected
Hollie Davidson did very well in what turned into a procession
       for Canada
Lauren Jenner (ex Kiwi, now Ital) was good in her game - used
       TMO well
Maggie Congar-Orr had a quiet match due to England's dominance
So far all the top refs have performed well, the latter stages
appointments may come down to experience

Congrats (in advance) to Sara Cox who on Sunday becomes the
first female referee to ref 50 tests
       A great achievement

Quite amusing watching Sara Cox as when she referees the men she
looks quite small yet reffing Spain v Japan I think she is
almost the tallest on the park. Huge smile on her face when it
was announced she was doing her 50th test and 1st woman to do so

No real surprises - if this is the top 4 then ABT or AG would be
favourites for final (assuming England get through)
Cogger-Orr or Roche IMHO are the only other 2 in contention
All 10 refs and 2ARs used plus 4 TMOs and the other 2 in the
       "bunker"
