James Bell - Stockport v L Orient

Good performance from James Bell so far.
Doesn’t get the word ‘excellent’ however because there are a few
things which I thought he got wrong and got a little bit
inconsistent near the end of the half. Missed a clear high foot
on the Stockport no9. Missed a caution for a challenge by Moxon
on Clare (some other people may argue SFP for the scraping down
the shin but who knows what contributes a red card for SFP these
days). Then in the last 5 minutes of the half I thought
Stockport got away with some manhandling but then Stockport won
a free kick for a similar offence by an Orient player.
No game changing decisions as of yet but as we saw in the 1st
leg, majority of them came in the second half. He really needs
to stay on the ball to make sure he gets everything right.

Could easily be a red or two by the end, not James Bell’s fault
- it’s a very competitive game. A couple of fouls I disagreed
with but mostly good and spot on with the indirect free kick for
my money.

Is it me or does James Bell have a canny resemblance to Deadman?

Just to add that Bell is a much better official than Deadman
ever was…

He looks well alive to me unlike the ghost an official in
another sport who seems to have gone into hiding.

Not just you. I kind of see it. Did we ever find out what
happened to Deadman?

Not precisely, and I’m not going to speculate either as it could
be inappropriate to do so.
That said, he certainly courted plenty of controversy in his
games and had little empathy IMO on the field.
Not as destructive as Kettle was, but not great.

Nothing was ever released publicly.

The day before the season started nearly 8 years ago, it was
widely reported that two referees had been sacked for alleged
misconduct. One was re-instated and refereed at the highest
level until he was sacked "again". The other was Deadman. TTFL
is not the only one to be confused, as I recall the never
reliable Sun printed a picture of Neil Hair at the time and
captioned it as Deadman.
I have heard reliable accounts of what was alleged, but all I
will say is it didn't come as a surprise.
