Farai Hallam - Wycombe v Charlton

Tricky game to manage for Mr Hallam this evening. Very physical
leading to plenty of fouls for holding but some he’s letting go.
Quite a few little scuffles have broken out which he’s dealt
with pretty well.
Kone can probably find himself a little fortunate to remain on
the pitch. A late challenge, with a partial slip, meant he ended
up placing his boot in Ramsay’s calf with quite a bit of force.
Arguably lucky that no official has seen the full extent of the
contact.

Impossible game to referee. He’s done well apart from the Kone
foul should have been red, but that was extremely difficult to
see in full.

Why is it impossible to referee ? Two committed League One teams
battling for promotion - certainly far from impossible - his
random and inconsistent decision making, and apparent lack of
any sort of man-management are certainly making the game far
more difficult than it should be but its far from impossible !

I think Farai Hallam is a great referee with a big future ahead
of home. Just think this game should have gone to a more
experienced EFL referee.

Lots and lots of duels/foul decisions made it tricky for
anybody. That as well as a team that would rather start
unnecessary scuffles than play football, a first year referee
was never going to survive that. It certainly wasn’t the worst
performance of these playoffs so far.

Most League One / League two games have duels and foul decisions
? Hardly therefore makes it impossible ? The fact that the
powers that be decided he should referee this game - i.e. his
merit position earned him the game says more about the system,
the current vogue in refereeing and what PGMO are now looking
for in a referee ?

It will be quite at atmosphere at The Valley on Thursday
evening. I expect Wycombe to mount a smash and grab raid. I am
pleased that a very experienced, and usually solid, referee in
Dean Whitestone has been appointed. I hope that's not the kiss
of death for his performance !

Hallam will prob go on and do well. But he was poor last
weekend, allowed so many confrontations to build with no real
repercussions, missed a few cautions, I would suggest he stops
trying to be every players best mate, and concentrate on doing
the job. I was not impressed tbh.
