Reubyn Ricardo, FA Vase Final, AFC Whyteleafe v Whitstable

A top class performance from young Reubyn. Calm, assured, fit,
yellow cards spot on and a clear rapport with the players on
what was a very warm afternoon, with end-to end play throughout
the 120 minutes. And that from a disappointed Whyteleafe fan of
old (Me!). Well done RR and team.
Full marks to Reubyn but no marks to the TNT pundit. Completely
embarrassing and he even got the refs mixed up, calling the Vase
ref Lewis Smith on more than one occasion in the 1st half. Hope
Lewis has a similarly good game in the Trophy Final, whenever it
manages to get underway.
Edit - no need for the 10 minute sin-bin for dissent, it was
that sort of game.

I was at the game(s) so didn't have to suffer TNT punditry.
Reubyn Ricardo was OK, nothing much wrong, nothing very
challenging to deal with. Fitness very impressive. I would
have liked to have seen a bit more effort to keep the game
moving. There was an awful lot of standing around waiting for
players to recover from injuries. The drinks breaks and breaks
between full time and extra time and at half time in extra time
seemed unnecessarily elongated. The match kicked off three
minutes late too. For a game to take nigh on three hours to
complete without any significant injuries seems excessive. I
appreciate that it was hot but it left those of us in the Royal
Box only 45 minutes to gulp down a three-course meal between
games. ;)
Lewis Smith was also very competent in an undemanding game - the
best I have seen from him.

Ricardo is the “Bright New Thing” and current flavour of the
month - a bit like Sam Allison was last season - from the bits I
have seen I think he is a much better referee, has a great
attitude and willingness to learn and has a far higher ceiling -
as is always the case though, superlative plaudits will be
thrown at him and his performances even when they are not quite
merited - as the above poster highlighting this from yesterday.
The current vogue for pushing referees quickly and without them
gaining the perhaps necessary experience will be his biggest
hurdle at this stage of his career
