Bradford City fire tragedy

Today is the 40th anniversary of the terrible fire whuch claimed
56 lives during the Bradford City v Lincoln game, when a joyful
promotion match was turned into a national tragedy which is
remembered by many to this day. Yesterday, an article in the
Times had Don Shaw down as the match referee, but we ascertained
a few years back (and confirmed by Don in a letter to me) that
he had pulled out of the game due to an injury sustained at Old
Trafford a few days before, and the game was actually refereed
by Norman Glover of Chorley. Sadly, that did not stop Don
receiving hate mail afterwards at his home in Sandbach. RIP all
those who lost their lives in the tragedy and our thoughts go
with those who continue to mourn their passing.
