T KIRK - Notts C v AFC Wimbledon

Jatta sent packing at the end, however it’s not clear for me
what he was binned for, either the two footed scissor challenge
or the act of VC towards the player on the floor he fouled.

The red came before the push to the face, so I think Tom Kirk’s
got it wrong first time around - but Jatta’s probably ruined his
chance of an appeal by doing that afterwards.
Tricky game to manage, a lot of half hearted penalty appeals.
Tom Kirk’s got most of the big decisions right (until the red
card) but a few mistakes elsewhere in my opinion, inconsistent
with his foul awardings.
Very very tight offside call from AR2 that would have had Jatta
1 on 1 in the first half, replays inconclusive.

Thanks for that… it was all kicking off so it was difficult to
see what was going on with all the push and shove etc.

I think the fact that he launched himself, two footed, from a
fair distance may be sufficient to sell the RC for the
challenge.
The "afters" will probably only add games to the suspension

I would say the red card is for jumping off of the ground with
two feet, falling under the category of a dangerous challenge
and therefore a red. It is one of those where not much contact
is made but I remember being told in my referee course that not
heavy contact is required for heavy sanctions. If the challenge
is dangerous, then the player can be dismissed. I give massive
credit to Tom Kirk for actually giving a red card for SFP,
something that we never see up at the higher levels of the game.

How he doesn’t give a free kick for the shirt pull before the
red card is baffling and his decision for a red card doesn’t
tick the boxes for serious foul play in my view….

It was a tough game but I think he got pretty much everything
spot on - great advantage for Notts on 47 minutes almost leading
to a goal. Glad he booked Bugiel for blatant non-footballing
challenges. For the sending off, I’d probably lean towards
yellow myself but red can be supported. I don’t think Notts will
miss Jatta anyway, been awful for weeks

I don’t particularly blame the referee as the laws are not clear
but when a player does not touch the opponent and cleanly wins
the ball, and there is not excessive force, I struggle to see
why it should be a red card. It was a lunge to win the ball
back, and of course it could’ve been dangerous but it wasn’t as
he’d timed it very well.

No problem with the sending off, bearing in mind the referee
only saw it once and it looked like retribution. I do wonder
though if it was wise at that stage in an important match not to
penalise the initial foul by the Wimbledon player.

I do think it was a red card as others have stated. And then his
reaction didn’t help the cause either
