Actually, I’ve rewatched it a couple of times and I’m now very
unsure. Dickie clearly has his arms around Moore and pulls him
down. That is the foul at which he is not playing the ball and
is playing the man. Therefore I suppose a DOGSO decision with a
red card is more supportable than I initially thought. It’s one
of those that will heavily split opinion but I will now say
Langford’s decision is supportable.

For me, he was only able to challenge for the ball because he
held back the attacker first, so I think a DOGSO red card is
supportable.

I’m not a fan of Langford but think the officials got both the
big decisions correct in the first half of this game.

was great team work and the second was a clear grab….

If you break it down, the defender clearly puts his arms around
the attacker before getting the ball. The contact made by the
hands is not an action which is an attempt to play the ball.
Therefore it's clear DOGSO and an excellent decision by
Langford.

Not seen the match but it appears credit goes to the referee and
team. A critical decision which will hurt City's supporters,
playing staff and owners. Such expectations. 3-0 has been
overcome but United are no mugs.
My question, is the law right?

I’ve not seen the game and have no idea whether he was right or
wrong however regardless 1 decision does not define a teams
season. Players and coaches will have made tens if not hundreds
of incorrect decisions across the season that will define final
position, success, failure far more than this one decision by a
referee.

Not seen the whole game but highlights only. An excellent
decision for red card and penalty, as it was for the disallowed
goal. Disgusting comments from mannning who I have always rated
as a manager, extreme sour grapes. Well done Langford for
applying LOTG correctly

I was at the Magic Weekend at St James's Park this weekend and
the tackle on Moore would have been good in those games,
however, in a game of football you SHOULD always be penalised
and tonight it went that way and the decision was correct for
me.

First of all I’d like to agree fully with bmb’s excellent post.
I think it is a DOGSO red, you can’t avoid a red card by trying
to play the ball, while committing a foul that makes no attempt
whatsoever to play the ball. They are two very clear and
distinct actions, he does nothing wrong with his feet but he
clearly grapples him from behind with his arms and bundles him
over in a clear DOGSO situation. This isn’t mitigated by the
kick on the ball in anyway.
If a player were to punch a player in the face, while also
kicking the ball away in a fair manner - it would still be a RC.
I know that’s an extreme and not perfectly fitting example, I
just use it to try and make my point clear.
