Was a pretty tough game for Elliot Bell with plenty of tricky
KMIs, but I thought he put in a competent performance. He was
replaced by Aaron Bannister in extra time, assume he was injured
but it looked a bit odd, almost like a player sub.

I must say I thought Elliot looked nervous throughout this
fixture which led to his somewhat strange decision making. Too
often he made the decision to award a free-kick which baffled
both sets of players and totally frustrated the managers. No
doubt a promising official but equally no doubt pushed too quick
hence looking totally out of place on such an important fixture.
Well done to Aaron who stepped in late on as this is never easy
and was made all the more challenging being in such an important
and prestigious game.

Apparently Elliott is the son of that well known scourge of
referees, Jimmy Bell (operating with his mate John Coleman)
Makes you wonder what made him to decide to try things from the
other side and what his dad makes of it.

I've asked an ex-EFL official about this and he confirms it's
true. It would be interesting to know if he would have still got
the game had Rochdale got there, as Jimmy was once our assistant
manager. I would imagine not!
