Can’t argue with that appointment - for me he’s been the best
SG1 this season. Congratulations and enjoy the day - hopefully
my fellow Sunderland fans and I will too!

This will be Chris Kavanagh’s second Championship Play-off
Final. His first was Brentford V Swansea in 2021, but the match
was played in front of only 11,000 fans due to the restrictions
at the time.

Charlton Athletic FC (First Team) v Wycombe Wanderers FC (First
Team)
Football League 1
Referee: Whitestone, Dean
Assistant Referee: Hodskinson, Paul
Assistant Referee: Dallison, Andrew
Fourth Official: Donohue, Matthew
Reserve Assistant Referee: Karaivanov, Hristo
I haven’t seen most of the game but looks like Hristo Karaivanov
is on the line, think it might be for Paul Hodskinson? Not sure
if that was pre game or during.

The match officials for the 2025 Sky Bet Championship Play-Off
Final have been confirmed.
Saturday 24th May 2025
Sheffield United v Sunderland
Referee: Chris Kavanagh
Assistant Referees: Lee Betts and Neil Davies
Fourth Official: Peter Bankes
Reserve Assistant Referee: Wade Smith
VAR: John Brooks
AVAR: Timothy Wood
Nice that the efl read my earlier post 😂, hope they got
the no yellow memo i passed on from our south coast colleague.
Congratulations to all appointed , very much deserved on merit
this season.

Although initially I predicted Gillett, when Attwell got the FA
Cup Final I thought it was odds on to be Kavanagh. Although the
Cup Final has the history, this is arguably a more 'senior'
appointment. A worthy choice, congratulations to him and his
team; I hope they all have a good match.

Lee Betts was an assistant in the 2023 final. Seems strange he's
doing it again so soon after.

I can’t say I’m particularly surprised with this but I would’ve
liked it to have gone to David Webb. I’m glad he is there as 4O
though.
Kitchen picks up another local derby (?) having had many derbies
in the championship this season already (including Steel City
derby and Lancashire Derby)

Back in the day I’m sure select group refs did all PL finals.
Since when has this changed?

From memory sg1 official gets championship final, sg2
official(kitchen) gets league 1 final and a national list
referees get league 2 and conference play off finals

The last time select group refs did all the play-off finals was
in the 2021/22 season. This was the first season where VAR was
used for all play-off finals and due to the decision being made
at short notice I believe it was decided to appoint all select
group officials.
