As the regular EFL season draws to its conclusion,
congratulations to any match officials who have decided it is
time to hang up the whistle/flag.

Not many names standing out as candidates to retire. Drysdale is
the obvious shout but he still looks as fit as ever.
Stockbridge, Swabey maybe? Or Peter Wright moving permanently to
VAR
More likely some from SG2 will call it a day - Davies, Simpson
and Eltringham must be in their latter stages. Possibly Langford
or Linington too who it feels like have been around for decades

I hope Lee Swabey doesn’t retire as it would be awful for him to
go out on such a poor performance as he put in at Shrewsbury
this week. At least if the manager is to be believed he had the
decency to say that he has had better games.

Agreed, I think Geoff Eltringham is the most likely to retire,
given his recent injury issues.

Stockbridge is only mid 40s i think so would be surprised if he
retired.

Think acme was basing his opinion of his injury record
especially this season where he unfortunately has refereed very
few championship games.
If injury forces his hand and he takes that route it will be a
big shame as he has been a very safe pair of hands in sg2
circles.

Sam Purkiss refereed his last game on Saturday — between
Charlton and Burton.

Surely this must be an early retirement. Going to concentrate on
his impressive legal career perhaps.

Thank you. Is this confirmed? I keep a database of 'final
games', and I will add Sam's name if it is. I have seen Sam a
couple of times at Gresty Road and always thought he was a safe
pair of hands.
