I can see Ruebyn Ricardo getting a PL middle before the season
is up, that’s a great appointment as 4th with Oliver’s usual
team
Not if the powers that be saw him referee Peterborough v Bolton
on Saturday. Two shocking penalty decisions plus nine yellow
cards in a game with one bad tackle in it.
I wasn't at the match and have not seen any extended highlights
and so cannot comment on the performance of Mr Ricardo. However,
as a general point, it is perfectly possible to issue nine
completely correct cautions without there being a bad tackle in
the match. Persistent minor fouling, dissent, breaking up a
promising attack, failing to retreat the proper distance at a
free kick, handball, time wasting, entering the field of play
without permission. It's relatively easy to tot up the yellow
cards without a bad tackle being made.
I entirely agree. But this match wasn't one of them, although
he couldn't really avoid yellow carding the idiot who donned a
mask that he had secreted by the touchline after scoring.
Anyway, he has the FA Vase Final now (Mr Ricardo that is) so I
will look forward to another viewing of him at Wembley when, I
trust, he will produce a top draw performance.

Surprised to see David Webb on a Premiership game, but
pleasantly so. Gets about his job in an unhurried manner, and
each time I have seen him wondered why he hadn't had a
Premiership game.

Do we think this is a reward for Webb after years of sterling
service, or do we think he may be used in PL matches moving
forward? Either way, huge congratulations on a thoroughly
deserved appointment!

More likely to be Mr Hallam rather than Mr Ricardo being looked
closely at.

he’s getting his trial game?

I'm glad somebody else mentioned that. As a Bolton supporter I
resisted posting in case I saw the performance through biased
eyes.
When I saw Ruebyn Ricardo's name down for Saturday's PET vs BOL
fixture I had no issues. "Impressed" is the wrong word to use
as it's too deep for the level of my interest - I prioritise the
team performance before the other influences - but i've not had
any complaints, concerns or negative memories of any decisions
or matches i've seen him officiate previously so he's not a red
flag - unlike a lot of other officials. So I suppose "Happy to
see" or "ok with that" would be more suitable descriptions of my
response to his appointment. Much better than an "oh no" (put
lightly) or a facepalm or rolling eyes emoji ::) used at the
sight of certain other names.
But, on Saturday, I was surprised. Shocked perhaps. Certainly
"unimpressed". Some of the decisions - for/against both teams -
were shocking. Some of them so obvious it caused genuine
disbelief when the wrong call was awarded. Even amongst the
opposition. Some of the Peterborough fans after the game
admitted they were lucky to get, at least one of, the penalties
because they didn't think the challenge(s) were fouls. And
there were one or two moments when Bolton fans thought "we got
away with that one" too. Of course, there were also moments
where definite free-kicks weren't given, throw-ins were awarded
the wrong way and players booked who shouldn't have been, and
players not booked when they should have been. But that kind of
stuff happens in every game. Listening to the post-match on the
local radio on the way home and watching the game back on our
club website the next day it seems even the respective
commentary teams shared some of the same opinions of Saturday's
game though.
Don't get me wrong, it was a 90+ minute game of football and
there were plenty of correct decisions, plenty of good moments
and, in reality, probably only a few bad ones. But it's those
ones that are usually more influential to the game, more noticed
and more memorable for the wrong reasons. And sadly, this was
the case on Saturday where it didn't just tarnish the game, but
- temporarily at least - the reputable opinion of Ruebyn Ricardo
that I held and described previously too.
But....everyone has a bad day at the office occasionally. And
it's wrong to completely re-judge after only witnessing one. As
I say, compared to some - a growing number - of officials this
season, there has been no previous cause for concern or
complaint regarding Mr Ricardo so maybe the powers that be will
still be considering him for the PL despite the occasional blip?
It must also be said that the referee was not the only official
at the match. It is wrong to only single out the guy in the
middle. The assistants should have seen / did see many of the
incidents, as should/did the fourth official. But -
particularly in the lower leagues One and Two - it seems
communication between the four of them is sparce or
non-existent. I've lost count of the number of times something
happens directly in front of the fourth official but the referee
(further away from the incident) either plays on or, worse,
awards something the other way. Or the number of times the
assistants are in a better position/angle to see the incident
but the referee hastily makes the decision before any
consultation. I'm sure some of those "yellows that shouldn't
have been", "no card but should have been" and maybe the
penalties or some of the other decisions that Ruebyn Ricardo was
criticised for on Saturday, would have been seen by the
officials that were stood closer to/directly beside, but the
ref's decision had already been made without consultation and
could not be overturned. With no VAR in lower leagues it is
essential to use the eyes and ears of all 4 officials to assist
in the decision making . Apart from anything else, it's their
job.....
So, again, I'm willing to give Ruebyn Ricardo the benefit of the
doubt and I agree he seems to be impressing the bosses and
heading for the Premier League. Good luck to him.

We currently are in the unknown as to the status of Scott and
Tierney at present for next season.
I could see Webb filling in when the bones get bare with
injuries or VAR requirements, however I think Donohue is getting
a promotion for next season, plus Kitchen.
Scott was promoted at a relatively senior age to SG1, and with
Webb at 44, stranger things have happened.

Yeah I wouldn’t be surprised to see Webb promoted to buy the
PGMOL a few years to get a some of the younger refs through the
leagues.

Mr Ricardo, in my limited experience of him at National League
level has seemed to be either outstandingly good or
excruciatingly bad with very little in between.
It has been postulated by other NL Club fans that, after a great
and very encouraging start, resulting in some "top"
appointments, his style changed and definitely not for the
better.
Instead of being himself which had got him where he had got, he
seemed, at times to be forcing things, perhaps feeling that
necessary for operation at the higher levels?
