It can't be downgraded to a caution as officially it remains on
the player's record as a dismissal - it's just the suspension
that is withdrawn.

Is that right?
So if the red is overturned, but he gets another red later in
the season, he would get an additional game ban for it being the
2nd dismissal of the season? or not?

Thank you. I've learned something. The sending off is deemed
sufficient punishment, in other words.

I don't think he would get the additional match anymore - it
used to be the case, however the FA disciplinary regulations now
explicitly state that for Step 5 and below a successful wrongful
dismissal doesn't count towards the totting up process. There is
some ambiguity though, as the regulations for Step 4 and above
don't actually say whether it counts or not.

To summarise… all very messy and unnecessary. Had common sense
prevailed in the first instance it would have saved a lot of
time and hassle.

Yes, the reason as I understand it is IFAB and FIFA don't really
"allow" appeals, and in many countries if you are sent off you
just have to suck it up no matter how wrong it was. The FA work
around it by removing the suspension but leaving it as a red
card.
As for the decision, I don't think VAR should have got involved
given the high bar this season. But anyone saying it can't be
SFP just because he slipped are I'm afraid just wrong, there is
absolutely nothing in law that supports that viewpoint.

Common sense was surgically removed from the game some time ago.
It is only a matter of opinion and now there have been three
entities offering their opinion: The on-field referee, the VAR
and whoever comprised the appeal panel. My opinion remains
unchanged and the emphasis on "the slip" is being overplayed;
but others disagree and that is fine.

Brooks did way too much talking there and like the previous
poster said it’s hard to believe both of them thought it was
intentional to lunge in with 2 feet.
Brooks one of our top refs but not great on var(like Oliver?)
