Dermott Gallagher agrees with the red card. Dale Johnson sits on
the fence although he comes over as believing there was no
reason to overturn the original decision. He appears to give
credence to the defence that the player slipped and that should
be taken into consideration regarding the force involved, that
is it was greater than would otherwise be the case. Referees are
struggling with SFP and is this a result of the Tarkowski tackle
which wasn't punished?
I feel that the tackle was SFP in it's outcome but also suspect
that the appeal will be upheld irrespective of the LOG because
ex players are involved and there will be sympathy for
Evanilson. These former players have previous for interpreting
the LOG in favour of the appellant thereby using "common sense".
Bankes was poor and the Dorgu YC was totally wrong.

I suspect that the red will be rescinded, look who you are
playing in the next few games.

It won't. Checking club badge..........

The Adams incident... it's one of those where both players have
gone in full blooded, it's a genuine 50:50 and milliseconds
either way depends on who commits the foul. A red and subsequent
3 game ban is a punishment out of all proportion to the offence.
I'd say the same with the Evanilson incident. a 3 game ban for
slipping (becaise that's what it was) is unconscionable.
If he doesnt slip, he wins the ball cleanly and fairly.

I made a comment yesterday Jim about how much slipping was going
on, it was like when Eddie was there and always had the
groundsmen over water (imo) the pitch. One point 2 of our
players slipped over, no-one near them, not looking for fouls
etc. - about midway into the ted shed end.

Don’t agree re Maguire. He was holding Semenyo as much as
Semenyo was holding him and in fact on the second one he pushed
Semenyo over. Neither were penalties, they were 6 of 1 half a
dozen of the other.
Maguire trying to pull semenyo off him. Bournemouth player not
even looking at the ball only Maguire. I’ve seen penalties given
for a lot less
Perhaps it's time for a change of law in these situations. If a
player is not even looking at the direction the ball will be
travelling and is just intent on blocking the opposing player
then it's a foul and penalty. The defending player has obviously
got no intention of trying to play the ball if he is not looking
at it. Of course if the positions are reversed then award a
defensive free kick.

Fine in theory and I don’t disagree with the sentiment but a
referee only has a split second to make a decision and already
has more than enough to consider in that time, you can’t really
add to it noting who is looking where into the mix especially as
they’re likely to be focusing on body for pushing/pulling or
feet for tackling. It’s not practical, imo. You can’t really
give it to VAR either I don’t think. It’s one of those
annoyances in the game and we see it far too often from every
single team. I’m not sure of any practical way to deal with it
though. 🤷‍♀️

A still image only tells a tiny fraction of the story, I or
anyone else could re watch that same incident and take a
screenshot at a different frame showing Maguire as the one doing
the holding or “easing” Semenyo to the floor. It was 6 of one
half a dozen of the other and never a penalty and yes I’d have
said the exact same thing if it had been at the other end.

It’s getting near time to try the hockey system. All defenders
on the goal line, all attackers on the edge of the penalty area.
Let’s see them grip and push then.

News this morning that Evanilson's red card has been overturned.
Right decision, but I am surprised, because I didnt expect them
to overturn it.
I also understand that when the tackle was played back for the
VAR and the ref, they didnt even show the slip, just what
happened afterwards.
Puts me in mind of a penalty we conceded at Brentford on a VAR a
season or two back, when they only showed Senesi apparently
pushing Toney to the ground when 2 secs before, Toney had
gripped Senesi's arm preventing him from getting goal-side. The
commentators called it "clever" by Toney, rather then calling it
out for what it was.
It seems part oif the problem with VAR is the lack of context
presented to them/the referee, with just the outcome being shown
and not what led to it.
There was also an incident in the Man Utd home game last season
when we were given a penalty right at the end with the score
2-2. VAR looked at it and deemed that the trip was just outside
the box, without considering the blatant pullback on one of our
players in the box as he tried to playthe loose ball a fraction
of a second later as play continued. Penalty overturned and a
DFK given on the edge.
I think this is one area where VAR needs to get better. I wonder
if the criticism of the time issue is leading to hasty decisions
based on a selective view.

I see today that Francisco Evanilson's red card has been
rescinded on appeal. I make no comment on that or the original
decision. However, if a sending off is overturned on appeal, can
it not be reduced to a caution (if deemed appropriate) in some
cases or is it always an "all or nothing" situation? If the
latter, it seems unfair to me that the foul play (a tackle in
this case) goes totally unpunished.
