It’s yet another example of officials not understanding the
game. There is no force behind the challenge, no malicious
intent, he has simply slipped.
It’s never a red card in a million years.

I'm not saying it's a red but I thought intent wasn't in the law
book and there have been reds given for challenges that have had
no malicious intent this season for example the Dorgu red card
vs Ipswich.

An interesting red card. Evanilson slipped but does that negate
the fact that the United player was hurt and that it was a
dangerous tackle albeit unintentionally. I think VAR was of the
view that Evanilson chose to make the tackle, therefore my
interpretation of that responsible for the outcome. I cannot say
it was reckless but his actions endangered a player and contact
was made on the ankle. Intent is irrelevant isn't it now?Maybe
this is var at its worst, the referee should be able to use
common sense but when you forensically assess the incident
discretion goes out of the window.
Interesting to see if Bournemouth appeal and what the outcome
is.

Poor, poor, poor.
We’ve gone from one extreme to the other with SFP this season
with tackles like Tarkowski v Liverpool and Estupinan v West Ham
not given to things like this being an OFR and red card.
With regards to the tackle itself, the only thing that could
potentially make someone think a red card is a slight scissor
motion but that in itself is not clear. Evanilson’s left leg
slips away and this makes contact with Mazraoui’s foot which is
slightly aerial. His right leg, which is higher up, doesn’t
actually make any contact above the shin. The movement of each
leg is natural for a slipping motion. There’s nothing about the
challenge that screams dangerous to me.
I can understand a yellow but in no world is it dangerous
because the red card is not given for excessive force.

Bankes and team have been very poor today. back to where he was
last season and not showing this seasons good form

That's two years in a row we've been done over by VAR at home to
Man Utd.
I was surprised when Evanilson was booked, never mind that VAR
then deemed it a red. I woukld expact we will appeal that, but
it won't get overturned as we are not Arsenal or Man Utd.
No arguments with Adams yellow, when two players launch in like
that, whoever comes 2nd is always going to see a card.

My only comment is going to be that is the worst referee/VAR
performance I have seen in one of our games this season, if not
longer.

I have said on RTR a few times this season that I reckon John
Brooks to be one of our best officials and that he and Barrott
in a few years will be the natural replacements for Taylor and
Oliver on the international scene.
Peter Bankes has had a good season since returning from injury
and has been rightly rewarded with some good games of late as a
result
BUT
Today both showed their lack of common sense and understanding.
Brooks as VAR should never have got involved and Bankes as on
field official should have been strong enough to go with his own
decision. It was a very poor showing on both their parts.
Earlier this season Bruno Fernandes had a red card overturned on
appeal. If Bournemouth fail to get this one overturned it will
be a disgrace in my opinion.

VAR should never be getting involved in that decision.
Bankes should have had the courage to tell Brooks to “get lost”
after looking at the screen. Even if he had stayed with his poor
decision on the field with the yellow, it would have been a lot
better than the alternative of seeing Evanilson sent packing and
a situation made a lot worse.
If it’s not overturned, it’s also a three match ban to boot.
I’d be interested to hear Gallagher and his thoughts on ref
watch tomorrow.

He should have worn yellow too to make it a full house!
