Chris Kavanagh : Newcastle vs Man Utd

A relatively easy game to referee with 48 minutes gone and
Kavanagh in my opinion has been ok at best , no game management
from him both bookings were avoidable and could have been
warnings , no smile on his face or interaction with players like
he usually does , almost as if his style from refereeing in
European competitions has come to the fore

The cautions were nailed on, one was a textbook SPA and he
really had no choice. For the other he had spoken to Amass and
a Newcastle player about pushing and holding at a corner, then
as it was about to be taken Yoro clearly pushed the same
opponent to the floor. He can't go back in to talk again, it
was a stupid act by Yoro and has to be a yellow card.

So a push is a YC but when it is the other way it isn't a
penalty (with the score at 1-1)? Then no YC when Hojlund was
brought down when he was breaking away in the centre circle.

While I couldn't really argue about the 2 YCs, I agree with the
OP that Kavanagh looked more detached from the players than he
usually does. And like bruntyboy, I felt at least one other YC
missed. Not sure about the penalty though. I suspect it was
one that could be given elsewhere on the pitch but rarely for a
penalty.
CK was ok but it wasn't a particularly challenging game.
Noticeable again that Fernandes interceded on one occasion to
prevent another United player, evidently annoyed, likely getting
cautioned for dissent.
The officials and Newcastle were certainly infinitely better
than United with their woeful defensive errors.
