Brighton vs Leicester - Darren Bond

What did we make of the 2 VAR interventions for the 2 penalties
awarded in this one?
Stuart Attwell on VAR spot on for the first one, a definite arm
towards the ball, i’m not sure we’ll have too much debate there.
The second one, given the amount of shirtpulls we see
unpunished, i’m not sure this was a forceful/prolonged offence
that we would expect to see punished. If it was given onfield,
i’d be okay with sticking with decision but I think to overturn
that decision further muddies the water with regards to “How
much do you have to pull someone’s shirt to give a foul?”

Wouldn’t it be easier just to say pulling or holding a shirt is
a foul ?

Except that quite often a referee has to decide who started
it..... That can be very difficult to determine, if not
impossible.

2 clear penalties both of which should have been seen on the
field. Poor from Bond who is the one of the weakest in thr SG1
group

As with players referees need a sustsained run of games to build
confidence, get up to speed etc
Can't help to be in and out of PL games

I cannot comment on Mr. Bond's position in the SG! pecking
order, but both penalties should have been awarded on field.
It might be my old age, but I thought "holding an opponent" and
"pulling an opponent" was a penal offence? Perhaps if it was
consistently penalised (everywhere on the field of play), then
it would occur less frequently - just a thought!

The wording was changed in the laws to define what is holding,
as below.
A holding offence occurs only when a player’s contact with an
opponent’s body or equipment impedes the opponent’s movement

but that definition does pretty much cover all the instances
under discussion.

I totally agree with the last part, down there with Robinson,
the pair are probably the worst SG1 Referees we have. I don't
recall Bond having a good game at all this season.
