Darren Williams Middlesborough v Leeds

He's definitely in the spotlight after ruling out his 3rd
perfectly good goal for Leeds in the last 8 weeks. I really
can't see the thinking behind sending him to a Leeds game after
already giving two controversial rulings. I think both he and
Shaun Hudson will be thanking their lucky stars that neither of
their mistakes affected the result tonight.

Three perfectly good goals for Leeds he has ruled out for
offside in the space of 8 weeks. Where is the accountability? I
am finding it difficult to argue the case for officials amongst
my friends tonight. I feel the Football League has a
responsibility to make a statement about this situation. Another
letter of apology to Leeds, the 7th this season is not enough.
Once or twice against the same team in 8 weeks can be argued as
incompetence, but 3 times needs explaining. He should be dropped
for the rest of the season pending an investigation. But this
won't happen. The Football League will hide their heads in the
sand. Better judgement does not allow me to say what I really
think

I only saw the second incorrect offside call last night and in
slow motion it looks worse than at full speed. It is an example
where the last defender is moving out quickly as the forward
moves towards goal. The dynamics are such that in one split
second he is onside, the next offside and by some margin. It is
a very difficult call. However, in the Premier League the
assistants appear to get these tricky calls right first time
even though VAR is there to help and the offside flag delayed.
So it can be done.
Pleased for Leeds because they deserved to win given the poor
calls last night, but I would pay tribute to the Premier League
assistants who have much improved over the years.

I think any aspirations of getting to the PL line may have gone
up in smoke

I posted this in the appointments thread before seeing this one
but might be more relevant here:
Both decisions (one for each AR) would have been changed with
VAR. Having said that, they were tight and well within the
bounds of reasonable human error (given that SG2 AR's are mostly
reasonable human beings).
Fortunately, they were not game changing, otherwise we would
have never heard the end of it and the calls for VAR in the
Championship would have been long and loud. The answer to those
who want VAR to eliminate these errors is get yourself into the
Nirvana that is the Premier League. Remember, there are
thousands of players every week who have to rely on the
abilities and honesty of Club ARs. They play at that level for
a reason, as to those in the Championship.

Obviously a poor decision but why put officials under
unnecessary pressure/spotlight by appointing them to same teams
frequently. There is plenty of them now that this can be avoided
