A lot of guesswork going on there, but not playing a shot often
takes away the benefit of the doubt in the Umpire's mind.

It's definitely one of those unspoken rules that probably
shouldn't exist but everybody knows does, though it is strange
that top level umpires sometimes take the same approach to local
2nd XI ones

I cannot explain the decision by Saggers. Sometimes a batman's
foot is moving away from the line of the stumps and lands way
outside although the ball hit the pads closer to the line of the
off stump. But this isn't the case here and there is no way the
ball was turning enough to hit the stumps. Very odd from an
experienced official.

I believe he was at weetwood with Simon Widdup on 9 april doing
a Leeds/Bradford university friendly. An all Doncaster born
umpiring team.
