Harrington booked 4 players for dissent this last weekend.
Strange. Was a different approach taken by the officials for
what was a high profile game, on Sky tv and watched by millions?
Meanwhile, over at Molineux, at a game no-one here has seen, not
broadcast on main channels we have a different approach. I am
uncomfortable with what is happening and I am increasingly
thinking that PGMOL should be disbanded so there can be no
influence from Premiership clubs, the stakeholders Mr. Webb
refers to.
To be fair to Barrott, other referees are struggling with SFP
and are reluctant to card dissent. The offside decision is
probably correct but I do not like the Law as it is currently
worded.

Gosh, you're right. Was it really 17/18 years ago! And not
forgetting Kuyt's airborne assault on Phil Neville which could
have decapitated him had he not performed a high jump and just
about got out of the way. Kuyt's recently admitted he should
have been sent off and was glad there was no VAR. Mind you,
based on last evening's incident.......
Rather ironic that Clattenburg sent off Neville, I think in the
same game, for a save on the goal line any goalkeeper would have
been proud of.

PGMOL privately admit it should have been red. On BBC live feed
otherwise I would provide a link. VAR got it wrong and should
have overturned the yellow card.

Officials Limited (PGMOL) the tackle met the threshold for
serious foul play.
The view of PGMOL is that an on-field review should have been
recommended to referee Sam Barrott and ultimately the original
decision overturned.
Referee Barrott felt the challenge was reckless in real time and
VAR Paul Tierney deemed that call not to be a clear and obvious
error.
The PGMOL says it wants to operate in a transparent way by
admitting mistakes, and felt this incident needed to be
addressed immediately, rather than waiting for referees' chief

Its high time referees were told to referee to the laws of the
game.
We used to complain about the pgmol under Riley but i think
things have got worse recently.
I do not blame the referees themselves, they are damned if they
do and damned if they dont. The pgmol hierarchy trying to
satisfy everybody as thats what ‘the game wants’ is creating a
massive rod for its own back. If the game wants 22 players on
the pitch at all times then the game should start asking the
125k+ per week players to behave themselves rather than having
125k per year referees having to mollycoddle them.
It must be very frustrating and soul destroying for all referees
in the top flights of english football trying to carry out the
instructions of their employers.
Refereeing should be under the jurisdiction of the FA as it was
in the past with no club involvement.

You won't have seen them given like that, where the attacker
stands still and makes no movement at all, for several years.
There's just no scope in the current laws to penalise that.
Van Dijk was indeed seemingly having a lot to say, but equally
he is the captain and that gives him a certain amount of leeway.

Think you may have slightly red tinted specs on there. It
wasn't anything even vaguely close to VC by Pickford, and
totally different to the previous one where he took out Van Dijk
which I agree certainly should have been a red card.
Jota may need to speak to Jack Grealish to ask him how he gets
the grass stains off his shorts, as he was constantly throwing
himself to the ground after feeling any kind of contact. The
referee, rightly, wasn't having it and let a lot of physical
contact go but consistently.

I found it odd that only Nunez got booked in the Pickford
incident. Nunez was booked for delaying the restart and rightly
so but the failure to issue a yellow card to Pickford comes
across as uneven treatment. Pickford's challenge was nothing
more than a yellow but that it wasn't given will be another mark
against Barrott.
A good learning curve for the young official. Is good the right
word?

I have a degree of sympathy with this view. However, the
whistle had long since gone and the incident was more than half
a pitch-length away from where the re-start was going to happen.
Maybe the officials had simply stopped watching the players who
continued, having not heard the whistle. As you say, it was
worth nothing more than a yellow card so it was nothing that VAR
could assist with.

Well when VAR was coming into effect in the PL sone members
might recall me saying on the forum that they will use VAR to
bail them out , and I also added prior to Martin Atkinsons
departure that he no longer looked like he was enjoying himself
due to VAR constantly getting involved but now referees are
relying on VAR to make decisions for them
please scrap VAR it takes away everything for the fans

I’ll readily admit that I’m a Liverpool supporter but maintain
that this is violent conduct. It’s subjective of course but I
believe it endangers Nunez’s safety and is excessive force.
