The decision was wrong, the more times I see it the less I
believe individual referees are the problem and it's a
fundamental flaw within the game in this country.

"The referee’s call of yellow card for a reckless foul by
Tarkowski was checked by the VAR, with contact on the follow
through after Tarkowski had played the ball deemed to be
reckless".
The statement on premier league match centre for anyone
interested. Very worrying if you ask me.

Barrott will be disappointed when he sees it back BUT that’s
what var is there for. Tierney has been a trusted var this
season but that’s an unbelievable decision.seeing all the angles
and deciding a yellow card is horrifying if you ask me

That statement has no credibility. What would you expect them to
say? It is a case of trying to justify the unjustifiable and
makes their match centre look farcical.
Look forward to ref Watch tomorrow. Warnock is slating Barrott
at the moment and not just this particular incident.

Let me start by saying it’s a clear red card, and thus a key
match error.
However, I am a little sympathetic to Barrott on field. Yes, you
want a referee to get it right, but of all the angles you could
have, he’s probably at the worst.
The first replay we see, in slightly slower motion, is in front
of the tackle, facing out from the corner. There you can see the
contact high up on Mac Allister’s left leg with one foot, and
low on the right leg with the other foot. That’s the foot in
closest view of the referee, who is also at a slight angle as he
was about to turn and follow play upfield.
From the referees angle at full speed he has to see through Mac
Allister to see the contact on his left leg. Ironically Barrott
is probably too close, if he was a bit further back and
positioned to the left, he’d have had a better view of it.
So it’s a wrong decision, I agree, but I don’t think on field
it’s as easy for the referee as being made out, I think most
referees on field would have likely reached the same decision
with the one second he had to view the incident, especially
given the ball was played clearly first. Added to the intensity
of the occasion it’s always going to be a tough call to make.
VAR however has none of the excuses above, and should have
recommended a review. Winning the ball is irrelevant here, the
tackle used excessive force and endangered safety.

To many I may seem crazy but aside from that dreadful challenge,
Barrott has actually done quite well I think.

Poor decision by Barrott
Appalling decision by Tierney

I think you make a lot of good points, especially about Barrott
being too close and I agree with much of what you said.
Still though, I would be more critical of Barrott than you are.
I accept a lot of what you say, but, the lunging nature of the
tackle through the ball and the force and intensity still to me
make it a very poor miss on field. I think it fits into the
category of - so bad you just have to get right. I think in the
VAR era we sometimes offer too many excuses for referees, I am
not suggesting you have done that in your excellent post, but I
do think he should have caught it.
As you rightly say, inexcusable for VAR to not get involved.

Agree, it probably wouldn't have looked as bad from his angle,
he should really have seen it but I can understand why he
didn't. But it is unfathomable that two officials sitting with
multiple replay angles didn't determine that this was very clear
SFP.
