Liverpool v Everton Sam Barrott

Very poor that Sam Barrott did not issue a RC on field. Even
more incredible that VAR Tierney didn't recommend and OFR.
Crystal clear RC, cannot begin to understand how a RC was not
issued.

There's a real issue with SFP detection at the moment.

I agree and that I think that is a clear case of SFP in the
modern game. Maybe years ago you might get away with that but
not anymore.
How Tierney, looking at several angles in different speeds, can
conclude that is a yellow is extremely disappointing. I think
Sam Barrott will be disappointed when he sees that back.

A schoolboy referee would be slated by their Observer for
missing that. How 3 professional SG1 referees can't identify
that as SFP is extremely concerning.

Adds fuel to the argument that you need more ex players
refereeing. And critics of VAR for that matter. Red for me. Just
my opinion of course. SFP is being ignored and the reasons for
it are not being communicated very well to the fans.

AWFUL !!! Justify what I said all week to people at work,
Barrott is not up to this game, he is far too far out of his
depth!!! How he don’t issue red on field is shocking, and
Tierney been so far out the loop this season with 0 games, he
cannot spot SFP.

Another textbook examples of referees sadly not knowing the
game.
It was deliberate, malicious and incredibly dangerous.
There is no situation where that should not be a red card. Yet
VAR will routinely get involved with incidents far less
dangerous and deliberate than that.

This is what you get when you have zero experience on the game.

I disagree somewhat with the comments about not knowing the game
- I have never played or refereed football myself and frankly I
think anyone with the slightest knowledge of the game should be
able to call that correctly. To be frank, I am in disbelief.
This was beyond an obvious red card. Even someone approaching a
call with a 'referee by numbers' approach should be able to see
that every criteria is met, and then some.
I would lay the blame more at the door of the PGMOL and their
seemingly very confused SFP policy, the main focus of which
appears to be avoiding RCs.
I said earlier in the week that I supported Sam Barrott's
appointment to this game, there is a long way to go in this
match and hopefully he will recover and do well. That key
decision however, was extremely, extremely poor. For VAR Tierney
- inexcusable.

I thought the common phrase was ‘clear and obvious’…
It doesn’t get clearer than that and I think Tierney should have
more blame than Barrott. Yes the onfield decision is poor but I
cannot fathom what Tierney is thinking.
Goes back to the point of the PGMOL seemingly wanting to keep
all 22 players on the pitch. No fan in the country or on this
forum would care if our officials refereed precisely to the laws
of the game. That’s all we want. None of this nonsense decision
making, especially regarding SFP
