John brooks with another big game in the Manchester derby
pleased for him, and also a note on his cup final performance, I
thought he was absolutely brilliant let the game and booked
players that needed booked.

I’d be very surprised if we don’t see a change of var in the
Manchester derby.

If Howard and his team choose to change the VAR for the derby
(which I would be shocked if they didn't), it'd be interesting
to see who they choose because Tierney has gotten most VAR
appointments for the big games since his injury.
I think the favourite would be Gillett, possibly Bankes, Attwell
or Pawson close behind him. Although, I'd love to see an
'outsider' (someone you wouldn't expect to be VAR on a derby).
Someone like Donohue, who we know from Match Officials Mic'd Up
has excellent communication and is proving to be a good VAR,
otherwise he simply wouldn't be getting appointments.
I wouldn't say Darren England or Rob Jones would be unexpected
but I wouldn't complain if one of them was the replacement.

I think the natural option would be to appoint Jarred Gillett to
be VAR on the Manchester Derby. He's at stockly Park anyway on
the Saturday so would be the best option. Paul Tierney has
basically been VAR twice per match week all season. I don't have
the numbers in front of me but I reckon he has done probably 40
games minimum. Can a VAR get burnout? He needs a couple of weeks
off after that error last night

I think officials should be removed from appointments only
extremely sparingly, so I have some difficulty with this.
However, I think in this instance the very high bar required to
remove an official from an appointment has been met. I don't
think it would be fair on Paul Tierney himself to be kept on the
game. And for refereeing and referees in general, the PGMOL can
greatly advance their perceived integrity*, which is very poor
at the moment, by demonstrating there is accountability for
extremely poor decisions.
*To be clear, I don't question for one moment the integrity of
anyone at the PGMOL, I am just speaking about the general public
perception that referees operate without consequences.

I don't see how they could take Paul Tierney off a game without
also giving Adam Nunn a rest. Yes he was AVAR, but they work
together and unless he said he thought it was SFP and Tierney
went with his own opinion he is going to be facing almost as
much of the heat.

Donahue also had a big mistake last night so it won’t be him.

Taylor and Oliver with derby matches, Kavanagh for us again but
obviously the stand out match is Brooks at Old Trafford.
Villa v Forest could be a tasty match for Hooper too.
[/quote]
Bankes match is key too as a win for Wolves more or less
confirms the bottom 3 but a win for Ipswich reignites the fight!

With Ipswich winning on Wednesday, it does mean that there’s a
bigger feel to this game then there did by the end of Tuesday
night. I’m happy to see Peter Bankes on the game as he’s been
trusted with big matches this season. May get feisty too with
one wolves played saying ‘it feels like a derby’.
I’ll be there today to support the blues and give some feedback
on Bankes later
