I watched Crewe v Port Vale on Sky. I thought first half it was
easy going for Martin Coy, with one easy yellow for a Port Vale
       player.
The second half had a bit more heat to it. I personally think
Martin missed a clear red card for Crewe No 4 as he clearly
swung an arm and made contact with the Port Vale No 6. The
assistant referee spoke to Martin Coy and they came to the
conclusion of a yellow card for the Crewe player. Having seen it
on reply it doesn’t look good, but, no further action can be
       taken now.
Then he had a flurry of yellow cards for the rest of the game. I
think his experience was key to keeping a lid on the game.
10 minutes of extra time was right as there were a lot of
       stoppage in the second half.
       [/quote]
However he shouldn’t have blew up on 100. At least another 2
mins because of their goalkeeper going down and timewasting.

Colchester United FC (First Team) v Grimsby Town
FC (First Team) Live on SkySports+
       Football League 2
       Referee: Breakspear, Charles
       Assistant Referee: Stokes, Joseph
       Assistant Referee: Ellis, Andrew
       Fourth Official: Carmichael, Marcus
On the most part, a very good night’s work for Charles and team.
A typical Breakspear performance - relaxed with a lot of
communication with players (sometimes I think his enhanced comms
with players by pulling them 20 yards to have a chat feels a bit
painstaking, but not too bad yesterday). Yellow cards were spot
on, I can’t think of any missed yellows either. The only glaring
mistake Charles made was blowing up for a foul and yellow to
Khouri when we had a great advantage. I also thought he gave a
few defensive fouls to both teams he didn’t need to.
The only KMI of note was a disallowed goal for Colchester early
on, Charles and AR1 must have spoken as it was a late flag. I
imagine there was plenty of considerations (was the scorer
offside, did anyone offside attempt to play the ball and/or
block a defender) so understandable and i’ve not seen any replay
with the full cohort of players in view but our manager believes
he’s seen footage which does show no offence - I couldn’t say
       either way.

Did the referee think the attacker has stopped him from being
able to kick the ball? Just a time wasting tactic as like you
said in a previous post it took two minutes before the
       goalkeeper got back up.

Tranmere Rovers FC v Cheltenham Town
       Football League 2
       Referee: Joyce, Ross
       Assistant Referee: Durnall, Steve
       Assistant Referee: Moore, Anthony
       Fourth Official: Simpson, Joe
After a couple of recent officials in the middle at Prenton Park
taking "game management" to extreme tolerance levels, it was a
pleasant surprise to have a referee in the form of Mr Joyce, who
was actually prepared to apply the rules and blow up for a
foul. The one area where there were problems, was that of
grappling with opponents, resulting in a number of stop-starts
to Rovers set pieces, while Mr Joyce went to warn players. While
it didn't seem there was enough contact to be awarding
spot-kicks, there was then a six of one type encounter between
Jordan Turnbull and the Cheltenham no 25, which Mr Joyce
adjudged a foul by the former and issue a YC for dissent when
Turnbull continued complaining. No issue with the caution, but
unsure about the original call. While there did seem to be some
simmering resentment, fortunately it didn't boil over. The other
3 YCs went to the visiting side, a pull-back, a trip on Patrick
in full flow and one for persistent infringement, clearly
signalled as such. Mr Joyce's fitness and positioning seemed
good. Both ARs seemed content to leave decisions for throw-ins
to Mr Joyce in the early stages, but this seemed to be their
choice rather than under instruction, as they took more control
of that aspect as the game progressed.
I have had misgivings about Mr Joyce's style in the past, but
here he seemed less detached, communication wasn't limited to
sanctions and he seemed more alert to what was happening; a very
quick stop for a potential head injury being one example. While
it wasn't a difficult game to referee, it was handled well and
hopefully he will continue with this approach.

Good summary Boz, “fortunately it didn’t boil over” I’ve seen Mr
Joyce enough times to believe that is a deliberate tactic to
allow for a better game to watch. He’s not afraid to go against
the expected call which creates a more intense spectacle. The
way he achieves this without losing control is a really
       excellent skill.

I thought Martin Coy did well in the first half, but thought he
didn't do so well in the second half, Vale players put nasty
tackles in on two Crewe players which were penalised correctly,
which were both close to Red cards. and issued yellow cards,
thou the Crewe defender was also lucky when he raised his arm on
his opponent and also issued a yellow card.
From an observers view, when he goes through the match video, he
will have several things to discuss with Martin as there were
aspects of his performance he will pick him up

Tuned into the Gillingham v Colchester game tonight as someone
who lives in Kent (despite still being an Ipswich fan). A few
       comments on James Linington’s performance.
A game of two halves is often a phrase used to describe a
football match but I think this phrase can be used to describe
       Linington’s performance this evening.
First half I was quite impressed. Foul detection was pretty good
with not every contact being a foul. He let it be a physical
battle without it overstepping the mark. There were some
questionable corner and throw in decisions where he and the AR’s
seemed unsure which way it should go. The first KMI was a big
decision for AR2 George Byrne. A massive question mark whether
the ball was out of play. In fairness to AR2, he had to look
through the goal to the other side which would have made it near
impossible to call with certainty. It was not clear the replays
either. Byrne kept his flag down the goal was awarded. I have no
       issues with that.
Second half started to become a real mixed bag from Linington.
One KMI missed (imo) by a handball from the Colchester No4 (?)
where his arm was raised by his head. The only thing that was
questionable was proximity but I think the arm was in too much
of an unnatural position. Reminded me of the penalty Man City
got vs Bournemouth in the FA Cup this weekend. Then another KMI
for which a penalty was awarded for some grappling in the box
between Gills No12 and Colchester No18. Couldn’t see the
incident from the sky sports replays. Didn’t seem to be too much
arguing from the players though. I think foul detection became a
little bit scruffy in the second half and to deal with small off
the ball incidents too (most notably between Gills No20 and
Colchester captain). All yellow cards went to Colchester with
some I think on the harsh side. One for delaying the restart
when I thought the ball got thrown into the players face which I
found a bit laughable. Also went over to the dugout to speak to
both managers about something which I couldn’t see.
As I said, a real mixed bag from Linington - a 50/50 performance
where I can’t decide between good or poor. As for the game,
Colchester were lucky to escape with a point but Gills couldn’t
take enough of their chances showing why they are the lowest
scorers in the league. I await elbee94’s report with interest
just to see what you think about his performance.

Jesus, what a poor showing from Paul Marsden at Crewe v Grimsby
last night. When you have both sets of fans singing “you don’t
know what you’re doing” it kind of sums it up. Really
inconsistent from the get go. First KMI came in the early first
half with a penalty shout for Crewe and it certainly looked one.
Striker turned the defender then gets hauled down. (But then he
kept on giving this foul everywhere else on the pitch). He
failed to play a lot of advantages, one where Grimsby was
through and he pulled it back. That really annoyed the Grimsby
faithful and rightly so. This trend continued over and over
again. He missed several fouls for both teams and our captain
was lucky not to be sent off for a second bookable offence. Last
night, I witnessed the weirdest play in football I’ve ever seen.
High foot in the box for Crewe, they got an indirect free kick
instead of a pen which was certainly correct because there
wasn’t any contact. From that resulting indirect free kick, the
ball went out for a Crewe throw. Our player sent a long one into
the box and it went straight in. Crewe were determined that it
touched the Grimsby gk. After a very long discussion with AR2, a
goal kick was the outcome. Moving on, again really inconsistent
and annoyed both sets of fans to the point where both were
sarcastically cheering when he got a throwing correct. Added on
10 mins second half which was fair and could’ve been more. He
wore the dreaded yellow kit. Positives? He got the two incidents
for the indirect free kick and long throw correct, had a whistle
and a yellow card. Other than that, a pretty poor showing im
afraid and for the love of all that’s mercy, keep him in the NL.
