A lot of crunch games this time of year. I’ve not seen Paul
Marsden but from reputation, that’s a big game for him to manage
next week. Declan Bourne, Martin Coy, Matt Corlett, James Oldham
and Ben Toner with promotion affecting games - other than Toner,
nice to see some new names on those big games, although Bourne
and Coy getting some good appointments under the radar perhaps.
Two trusted referees for us in Charles Breakspear (he used to be
fairly regular to Essex but it’s been a while now) and James
Linington. I get the point around SG1/2 appointments but I don’t
think there’s a massive deal of rhyme or reason to it - take
Graham Scott at Blackpool for example, who don’t have much to
       play for.
Matthew Russell getting a nice run of games at L1/L2 level.

Very fair point! I forget National List referees bother
       themselves below League Two ;)

Blackpool may not. But their opponents (Bolton) are propping up
the play-off places. And this fixture - home and away - has
been a tough match for the last couple of seasons. Plus, it's a
local derby (well, a Lancashire derby, but, compared to the
distance between most of the League One venues it's local).

Ross Joyce is not a Tranmere favourite, think the Crewe game
last season, when he sent two Rovers players off, our most
recent encounter with Mr Joyce in the middle. My previous
experience is of inconsistency and aside from the Newport
play-off final, that has usually worked against us.
Zac Kennard-Kettle took charge of our Motors Cup gave with
Accrington this season. I wasn't at the match, but the feed-back
wasn't as favourable as some of the positive remarks about his
other performances on here. His Dad, for all of the criticism he
got, usually did reasonably well when taking charge of Rovers
matches, so hoping that's a trait Zac has inherited!

Very surprised to see Tom Reeves - a native Brummie - at St
       Andrews for the Shrewsbury game.

With John Mulligan now going to Tamworth today, Andrew Miller is
       refereeing Rochdale v Aldershot.

Crewe Alexandra FC (First Team) v Port Vale FC (First Team)
       Live on SkySports+
       Football League 2
       Referee: Coy, Martin
       Assistant Referee: Bickerdike, Johnathon
       Assistant Referee: Amphlett, Marvyn
       Fourth Official: Baines, Dale
Another early kick off at Crewe to report on. I thought Martin
Coy was very good and showed his years of experience in this key
A500 derby game. Yellow cards looked OK and he took time to
explain his decisions when needed which was good. Second half in
particularl got a bit edgy but Martin kept a lid on things. A
pity that Crewe conceded late, which led to some unsavoury
scenes in one corner of the ground, but Martin stopped play
until the chaos had cleared and then added 10 minutes on at the
end, which was about right. Neither side deserved to win or lose
but Vale took their chance when it came along, and Crewe must
now hope to pick up 3 points on Tuesday, when David Artell makes
his comeback to Gresty Road, if they are to stand any chance of
       making the play offs again.

I watched Crewe v Port Vale on Sky. I thought first half it was
easy going for Martin Coy, with one easy yellow for a Port Vale
       player.
The second half had a bit more heat to it. I personally think
Martin missed a clear red card for Crewe No 4 as he clearly
swung an arm and made contact with the Port Vale No 6. The
assistant referee spoke to Martin Coy and they came to the
conclusion of a yellow card for the Crewe player. Having seen it
on reply it doesn’t look good, but, no further action can be
       taken now.
Then he had a flurry of yellow cards for the rest of the game. I
think his experience was key to keeping a lid on the game.
10 minutes of extra time was right as there were a lot of
       stoppage in the second half.
