I agree fully with TA_Ref, it is a great shame that we cannot
discuss the issues without making snide remarks.
I don't think the handball incident is a total non issue. I
completely favor the call made by Brooks on field and think VAR
was right to support. However, I can see why some people may
honestly feel it is a penalty and I do think in other countries
referees may be more inclined to give this type of penalty, the
line in England is very lenient, which is fine, but English
football doesn't have the monopoly on right/wrong. People acting
in good faith, viewing that incident through the parameters used
to assess handballs in other leagues, may come to a different
conclusion.
While VAR correcting the offside may be seen as a poor miss on
field by the AR, I am always hesitant to be too harsh. I think
VAR and forensic analysis may make being an AR seem easier than
it is.
While not consequential, the worst blot on the copybook for me
was the Joelinton foul near the end that was totally missed.
Fair enough Brooks had turned but one of the officials simply
had to see that. Extremely clear YC.
Brooks has an interesting style. He is certainly detached from
the players, maybe sometimes seems a little tense. I would
hesitate to call him a great star of the future on the world
stage just yet, but, he has this season cemented his place as
England's number three in my opinion. Congratulations to him on
a well delivered final.

Should he have allowed them to come back on the pitch to take
part in a breakaway Newcastle attack?
Why didn't Tonali have to leave the pitch after receiving
treatment just beforehand?

Very good by John Brooks, I like his 'detached' style from the
players, like when he told Tripper off 1st half, said what he
wanted to say, then hand out to say now clear off and totally
ignored Trippier, he has a natural old school authorian way,
which is something this new generation could do with noting is a
fantastic style.........but he is now one of the last few of his
breed who was a PL Assistant Referee working with the old
greats.
3 yellows spot on - prob missed 1 or 2 more, but largely very
good.

Not defending the poor flag here - however Harvey Elliott wins
the ball back in a flash and the ball comes soon after,
Greenhalgh is leaning to be in line and only just back up with
it so I can see why he flags.
Great afternoon from team ref all round. Have noticed a few
funny moments with Brooks where he often moves his arms when
signalling to avoid players. Had a couple in this game and I
remember a penalty he gave at Goodison as a similar example.

Absolutely no chance, Brooks was fine & Liverpool were awful.
Still waiting for Mo Salah to climb out of Tino's back pocket

Ref Watch hardly mentioned the incidents in this match, quickly
and unanimously agreeing with the officials. DG described Brooks
as having an excellent game. Was the word outstanding used? I
agree wholeheartedly.
What happened to Liverpool? Maybe Newcastle should be credited
for keeping them quiet.

To add to my comments I definitely felt he did himself justice.
He administered justice in a fair and proportional way.
Just a shame he didn’t red card Joelinton at the end for his
brutal assault on Elliot which I felt if he or anyone else on
the team would of seen it, you could of figured definitely
justify violent conduct !

I thought it was a bit of a misjudgement to allow the two
players back on to the pitch when he did.
If I remember correctly, Tonali was injured as a result of a
clash with a teammate and was therefore allowed to stay on the
pitch.
