       European Quarter Finals
By: RCG Date: April 1, 2019, 3:56 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
A very good weekend of rugby played across 4 capitals in the
Champions Cup as well as taking in Salford, Worcester, La
Rochelle and Clermont in the Challenge Cup.
Performance of the weekend: Luke Pearce. Not every decision was
correct, some took a review but his calmness, his use of ARs and
TMO, his clear thought processes abd communication were first
class. A referee on top form.
Nigel Owens was at his mercurial best handling 2 teams who had
got under each other's skins earlier in the campaign. One
scuffle off the ball which promoted a "dont want anymore of
that" response and the game went on quietly and ruthlessly
       efficiently by Saracens
Romain Poite in Dublin did well, not overly involved,
       consistent. Enjoyed the game
Pascal Gauzerre just did not look comfortable, no major errors
just didnt inspire confidence. I do think Raynal is potentially
       a better referee.
With Barnes and Garces already announced for Champions Cup Semis
I would expect Owens and Lacey for the Challenge Cup Semis

If only I was as accurate with the lottery numbers 😉
       Barnes, Pearce and Carley
       Garces, Poite and Raynal
       Owens, Whitehouse and Davies
       Lacey, Brace and Clancy
Almost as strong a line up as could be had

All French Challenge Cup final I expect to see Wayne Barnes
       Champions Cup
Saracens vs Leinster would be Garces
Saracens vs Toulouse would be Owens
       All my opinions only

Good shout RCG. Was just about to pen similar when I saw your
post. A reversal of the finals from last year too.
Reward for Garces for another excellent season and a thank you
for Barnes before his impending retirement.

I am glad European Rugby took note. Hendo and I are available at
       a small fee
Challenge Cup - Barnes, Pearce, Carley and Kitt (all, I assume,
heading off to Japan in the autumn)
Champions Cup - Garces, Poite, Gauzerre and Bonhere
Congrats to all. I shall be in attendance so will give a
       suitable review

Clearly Garces is regarded as France's best referee now. I had
thought that accolade was once held by Poite but no longer it
       seems.

Garces probably since last world cup has established himself
       internationally
