A Question of Dissent - Wolves v Everton
DIR By: TA_Ref
Date: March 10, 2025, 11:36 am
---------------------------------------------------------
I was watching the Wolves v Everton game on Saturday night and
there was one particular incident that caught my eye
The wolves midfielder, Andre, committed a foul in roughly the
middle of the pitch which Stuart Attwell correctly gave (in my
opinion). After the decision, Andre got up from the floor and
proceeded to virtually square up to Attwell. They were almost
touching heads. Therefore, Attwell gave a yellow for dissent.
I just wanted to ask that could that action be deemed a red card
offence because I would certainly say it’s insulting and
slightly abusive behaviour but I don’t really know where the law
crosses the line between a yellow and red card. Could someone
clear this up for me please?

It caught my eyes too. Should have been a sending off in my
opinion.

I think the point where it crosses the line from dissent to
offinabus is in the eye (or ear) of the beholder. Something
that you find insulting to you might not be something that I
find insulting to me.

This is only a picture so it might not look that bad. I’ll try
and find a video

Thank you but yh I don’t think it does it any justice, and looks
like a yellow is fair from that still image

The still image did not tell 99% of the incident so a video
would explain it better.

I couldn’t find a video of it anywhere unfortunately. I tried
screen recording my iPad from the programme on TNT but it
wouldn’t let me.
I 100% agree that a still picture doesn’t show what really
happened overall

For anyone who hasn't seen the video, the incident was within
the same bracket of what Lyon Manager did last weekend. For a
split second, I genuinely thought we might have a terrible
situation here and Paolo Di Canio moment sprung to my mind.
