New Eight Second Law For Goalkeepers

Thoughts and comments on the new rule/law? Good or bad? Will it
cause more problems for Referees? How will it be decided from
which side the corner kick will be taken?

Just another complication for referees to remember. If this is
applied then something similar should be in place for throw ins.
It wont solve any issue of time wasting (if that is its
purpose).
Add on the correct amount of time or do a rugby and have the
time stop (or dedicated time keeper)

It will be easier for referees to apply and therefore actually
applied. There isn't much a referee dislikes more than trying
to manage an IDFK in the penalty area, whereas corners happen
routinely throughout games. Plus the visual / audio countdown
from 5 to 0 make it more obvious.

It’s a joke rule. We have a rule already. Try enforcing that one
first

It will only work if PGMOL want it to work, and judging by the
six second rule it will not happen in domestic matches.

1 match if one of the big 6 concedes a goal from a corner given
for it and whip the shareholders into a screeching frenzy of we
don’t like it!

Its good to be cynical about the implementation but apparently
it has been trialled but according to what I heard, only 4
occasions led to corner kick.

I’m always suspicious of the various tests and trials. It’s a
bit like getting people to run a dummy stocks and shares account
- it has zero correlation with the real world. It doesn’t matter
until it’s your own money on the line.
In this instance, the trials have nothing like the same jeopardy
as a Champions League or Premier League match. I can’t wait for
the moaning when the first goalkeeper is shown to hold the ball
for 9 seconds without releasing it… or when a goalkeeper
basically cannot release it quick enough because of attackers in
the penalty area.
It’s a blunt instrument and my prediction is that it becomes the
exact same thing as the current Law. Irrelevant.

We will still have goalkeepers wasting time on goal kicks moving
the ball from one side of the goal to the other, going to take a
short kick but then waving defenders upfield etc. We should go
back to the goal kick being taken on the side the ball goes out
and no defenders allowed in the box.
