Istvan Kovacs Real Madrid v Man City

A good first half hour for Istvan Kovacs with a correct yellow
card for Gündoğan. However, just now IMHO a very clear
yellow card for Mendy missed, more a mistake by AR2, I think,
who should have intervened.
Broadly good stuff so far though.

Correct YC for Bellingham, just before good free kick only call
after quite an exaggerated reaction from the fouled Real Madrid
player and fans.

A good first half on the whole in terms of control and
acceptance, no challenge to the referee at all.
I do feel though three missed YCs the Mendy one I referred to
earlier and then a very clear off the ball holding on Mbappé
that was not punished by even a free kick. Finally, a very high
challenge by Ceballos only punished with a FK. I do firmly
believe these are all YC offences, however, there is
subjectivity, to them, especially for the holding offence.
Furthermore, I should say, this has been an easy going game (as
easy going as you get at this level) and the intervention level
of the referee has been very well accepted.

A few missed fouls and yellows which is unlike Kovacs but
nothing that comes near a game changing decision

Am I missing something but surely that is a penalty for the foul
on McAtee? That was clearly in the box and how the dickens VAR
hasn’t come in is frankly baffling.
Kovacs was looking right across the line too and gave a free
kick?

Van Boekel is a poor Dutch VAR, but after this evening, Higler
has topped that reputation in spades. A astonishing KMI error
from VAR.
Kovacs has missed quite a bit this evening, and although it’s
certainly didn’t affect the result one iota, it certainly was a
real mixed bag this evening.

Thought there were a few YC's challenges for both teams that
were missed, and the penalty at the end topped off what was a
pretty sour night all round.
I thought Kovacs was okay. Nowhere near his best I've seen
before, but by no means the worst performance I have seen. Just
okay.
