You beat me to it, he is having a great game many referees have
been conned with dives like that.
I don’t understand why players try it with var

Fully agree, it was a definite caution and he didn't bottle it
as it was a second. You'd be happy to see him in the English
game.

I don't wish to harp on a point I've already made but I think
this performance is what is missing in so many EPL referees (and
many elsewhere no doubt). The readiness, enthusiasm, strong,
determined body language backed up by excellent decision making.
Maybe he doesn't fade into the background as much as some other
officials, but that isn't always a bad thing. The game isn't
just happening around him, he is in charge without question,
anticipating and controlling rather than waiting and reacting.
Really positive referee to watch, always looks like he is giving
100%

I think you are spot on with that assessment. My belief is that
referees should try and stay in the background but when a
decision needs to be made you need to step into the spotlight
and that is not a bad thing. Marciniak does exactly this with no
fear and it’s what makes him the best.
If a referee has to go into the spotlight like he did tonight,
it’s because the players are forcing him to be. Not because he
wants to and that’s how public views of referees must change

This guy is world class in my opinion.
He makes it look so so easy and he certainly has an air of
Collina about him, in that he really doesn’t stand for any
nonsense, can really lay down his commanding presence, yet seems
very approachable when necessary.

Alas his style wouldnt go down well with what the pgmol bosses
want from their referees.
