Chris Kavanagh - Brighton v Chelsea

I thought Kavanagh had a pretty solid game overall, but
interested in opinions on the second goal. It's another of those
"deliberate play" situations.
The cross comes in and even though the lines weren't drawn
Welbeck seems to be offside. He's a yard or two behind the
defender, who knows he is there and stretches to try and cut the
ball out from reaching him for a tap in. Dale Johnson has said
this was, according to PGMOL, a "deliberate play" but I can not
agree with that interpretation.
The defender is stretching and impacted by the offside player
behind him. He can't let it go and take the chance on the
offside, he has to try and cut it out at full stretch and only
gets a toe on it. Does this not mean the offside player is
impacting the opponent?
The offside player then gets the ball following the attempted
interception and sets up the scorer.
Interested in other opinions on this. It's one which I feel
should be offside, but I don't have forensic enough knowledge of
the laws of the game to know if the decision was correct or not!

I think the fact that 2 Chelsea players touched it before
Wellbeck is enough to have reset the phase of play.

Decent stuff from Kavanagh last night, nothing really to cause
any issue with the performance.
Caicedo’s yellow was correct for his lunge on Mitoma.

The question I am asking is more that given Welbeck's
positioning has caused the defender to lunge to attempt to cut
out the cross, surely this is impacting the defender due to his
offside position (caveat on all of this, we haven't seen the
lines so he might actually not be offside!).
To me it's one that should be offside as the player is impacting
on the defender, and then has benefitted from his original
offside position.

Our number one referee at the moment imo consistently puts in
high accuracy performances.

With the greatest respect of your thought, the best referee in
England at the moment, imo, is the one you witnessed last Sunday
against Liverpool.
Although I’d agree it’s very close between Barrott, Kavanagh and
Brooks

That's one of the issues - if the ref/AR decide it's a
deliberate play then that stops us getting to see the lines.
Would be interesting to see them anyway though just to clear up
what ifs

Although Danny Welbeck may have been marginally in front of the
second last defender, my view from TV was that he was behind the
ball, so was not offside under any circumstance.

It would be useful to know as it could be a moot point, but I'm
more interested as to whether Welbeck would be deemed to be
interfering or not if he was offside.
