I wouldn’t disagree with the poster that said Marciniak or
Letexier are ahead of Oliver but that’s a high bar. I’d also say
that the players made the game so difficult to referee that I
suspect they also would receive criticism had they refereed it.
Great game and occasion to watch though.
The reason for Slot’s red card needs to be cleared up. Surely
stories of it being for a disrespectful handshake are nonsense?

Whilst appreciating that Mr Oliver is an extremely proficient
Referee, as evidenced by his status and the appointments he
receives I would be interested to canvass the opinions of
colleagues on this site in response to the following question.
Do you believe that any other SG1 Official would have received
the same level of support (possibly even kid glove treatment)
from correspondents after a generally perceived poor performance
like last night?

I agree about other European referees also finding this match a
challenge. I was hugely impressed by Clement Turpin the other
night, though a different sort of match, still with its
pressures though.
Reports seem to suggest that Slot took hold of Oliver's hand in
a handshake and wouldn't let go of it while he directed some
unpleasant and insulting words to his face.

Those who generally admire his refereeing probably cut Michael
Oliver some slack just as admirers of other SG1 referees would
do to their favourites.

Whilst it should be highlighted that Slot was fully in the
wrong, as X clips show this morning it seems extremely similar
that Pep Guardiola done the same thing 6 years ago to Oliver at
Anfield and wasn't dealt with.

Liverpool’s assistant manager was also sent packing at the end.
So that’s both Slot and his assistant banned from the touch line
for the next game.

Here's Hacketts latest lot, I have to say it's hard to disagree
with a lot of it apart from where he says that Oliver needs
extra coaching advice from PGMOL which is a weird statement. His
comments re the mystery free kick for Evertons opener and the
other mystery free kicks are fair I think. Also with what
happened at the end, I do think Oliver should've either just
left the pitch as soon as was possible, or he should've been
quicker to act on Doucoure. He did neither.

To be fair to Oliver, given how it all kicked off at the end and
red cards flying around for good reason, I don’t think he could
have left the pitch earlier given that most of the players and
staff were still brawling (plus with police on the pitch, I’m
sure the FA would have wanted the officials to stay on in order
to file and accurate report). There was a lot of security around
him as well so I don’t think anything (god forbid) untoward
would happen.
Incidentally, I hope someone with more extensive knowledge of
the laws, can someone clarify if VAR could still come in after
the full time whistle has gone, considering the distasteful
scenes at the end, or is it now down to the FA to step in and
issue punishment and sanctions to all the players who lost the
plot.

It is rarely, if ever, that the referee is the one to have lost
his head.
