Poor first half from Oliver. IMO
5 yellows... this could back him into a corner.
I struggle to see how he can be compared as a top official on
the same level with the elite officials in Europe and the world.
Turpin last night was outstanding.
Marciniak, Letexier are way ahead

I will say that I think he looks very calm and assured. His body
language has been quietly assertive and he doesn’t look under
pressure from the crowd.
However, I think he’s been a little poor with his foul detection
- Everton being the main beneficiary with some questionable
decisions with little/no contact. All the cards have been pretty
fair so far.
I have no real issues with the number of cards given. As
mentioned before, it’s all about how he chooses to keep control
of the game. Jarred Gillett kept firm control of the NLD by
giving 7 yellows in the first half. Oliver has kept this well
within his grasp even if some poor free kick decisions

Am I the only one who has thought he has done well, spoke to
players when needed and then carded when necessary

No you’re not alone. I think he has done well for the most part
- just as I mentioned I think he’s misread a few free kicks
which were little/no contact

With the players trying to gain every advantage, legally or
otherwise, it's a difficult game to referee without killing it.
A couple of odd decisions, including the foul that led to
Everton's goal, but carding is a dark art. Some are mandatory
and then you think how can that not be a yellow but which falls
into the descretionay category.
Salah is rather good though in the 91st minute he gets hacked
down and Oliver just waves play on presumably because Salah went
down easily. It's incidents like this which make criticism of a
referee's foul detection difficult. I am surprised these days
how many fouls, imho I should add, are no longer penalised.

Well, are you saying the cards were wrong or that she should
have just ignored/managed differently? I don't personally like
linking the quality of a refereeing performance with number of
cards issued. Maybe if a referee gives 10 yellow cards in every
game, there is an issue, but in some games, this can't be
avoided and nor should it be.
On your wider point about European referees, I do agree Oliver
is a step behind those you have mentioned, not way behind IMHO,
but behind.

My gosh what a finish to the game.
Jones, Doucoure and Slot have been sent off at the end and what
utterly disgraceful scenes to finish with the mass brawl and
police getting involved.
I’m sure the FA will be coming in to fine both clubs and it
should be done swiftly, and with a heavy punishment.
I thought Oliver did very well in a massive game, yes he has
missed one or two things but given it’s a Merseyside derby, and
a massive occasion, I wouldn’t expect any official to get
everything right.
Other officials who aren’t at the calibre of Oliver would have
struggled.
