I doubt he'll have lost any marks for being a few yards closer,
the ref for the key match error should have though! He has left
himself a problem if it was saved and a quick counter attack
happened though.

Just to play devils advocate! Should the referee have yellow
carded the player for showing dissent?

I can only assume from her angle she thought the lad in y****w
stripes clipped him. Poor positioning if that's the case, it
really wasn't a call she will look back on with any pride! Well
at least we hope not!
Talking of poor positioning: why is the assistant standing where
he is?
Is this not where he should be for a penalty?
Yes in the 3 official system the AR comes round and stands by
the goal for a penalty - have seen them have to leg up a pitch
as going back to the touchline as a pen has been saved and a
quick counter attack has occured! It has never seemed to be the
most practical move but refwatcher they are there to ensure the
gk stays on his line before the ball is kicked & to watch for
ball over the line in the event of that becoming an issue.
Always used to be standard practice for the AR to stand right by
the goal but not always adopted now, it seems to have been lost
with the wider use of AARs who assume that role when they are
used, with the AR instead lining up in line with the pen box &
presumably watching for encroaching (no laughing at the back
there...) instead.
I disagree. According to the Positioning, Movement and Teamwork
section of the current Laws
Penalty kick
The AR must be positioned at the intersection of the goal line
and the penalty area.
The Assistant in this case was positioned correctly for a
penalty shoot out:
Kicks from the penalty mark
One AR must be positioned at the intersection of the goal line
and the goal area.

Aren't they describing two different locations: the first the 18
yd box intersection, the second the 6 yd box intersection?
It should be at the 18 yd box intersection.

Did it a few years back, when I was more active! I was always
labelled by the powers that be as being "way too lenient" though
which is probably why I was sent to deal with the kids more
often than not!!! I had a whale of a time instead in the youth
leagues being very mumsy and dishing out way more praise than
criticism ;D

Looked like a young lass reffing. Wonder how she felt when he
deliberately missed to confirm her error.

Quite possibly relieved that it made it a little bit less of an
error than an unjust goal. I'm sure she has learned from it,
she doesn't look much older than the players. Poor girl has this
out there on the internet now forever more!!

Yes, positioning for a penalty shoot out certainly confirmed in
the Checkatrade Final this afternoon and for a penalty as seen
at Selhurst Park (et al) over the weekend.
