Jarred Gillett - Brighton v Chelsea (FA Cup)

Top work from the Australian so far. All cautions spot on, and
got smartly in to defuse a potential fracas.
Good, assertive body language on show and the players clearly
have respect for him and his abilities. It’s such a pity that
injury stopped him from really getting going this year, but
Gillett is making up for time and opportunity lost.
He is a quality referee and good to see him back on the park,
skilfully going about his business.

World class official. Nothing more, nothing less.

An all round solid performance by Jarred Gillett. Good second
half from him, a clear yellow card given for a late challenge
which the player had the cheek to complain about! Brighton had a
penalty shout too but that was a 50/50 call and the right
decision for me.
The Australian can be pleased with his night’s work and he can
go on and finish a hitherto disrupted season in better shape.

Jarred Gillett really is a top class referee. He exudes
confidence but without being showy or egotistical. Actually, he
just makes refereeing at this level look quite easy and
straightforward and we all know it is far from that. What a
great addition to England's senior ranks he is.

Well he had the other two west london teams in recent weeks so

Very good from team ref today.

His without doubt the one real world class fifa official we
have, goes about the job without fuss, but when the line is
crossed he doesn’t fail to sanction. If only English refs had
the same mentality ! 3 yellows in first 20 minutes kinda put a
stop to the negative fouls that were happening because he showed
the players he was in charge ! Assisted extremely well by the
old school which is the best school in Mr Cann.

I suspect that some might want to add messrs Oliver and Taylor
to that list, but he is very good and had an excellent game last
night. He showed that sanctioning correctly, even early in the
game, can sometimes (often?) enable a positive game to take
place.
Also agree about Mr. Cann. An official who reached anyone's
footballing Everest almost 15 years ago is still maintaining the
very highest of standards at the age of 56. Chapeau!!

If I remember correctly, Jarred Gillett sanctioned early on in
the North London derby. He then received unenlightened criticism
for ruining the game by issuing seven yellow cards in the first
half.
The policy, as last night, worked a treat. There was only one
further card in the second half, as last night. Gillett sets an
early consistent marker and as mentioned by others, the
Australian keeps firm control and allows the game to become a
spectacle by applying the laws of the game, rather than trying
to “manage” the game, in the modern vernacular.
What I also liked last night was when players took issue with
Gillett, firm, assertive body language came back in the players’
direction, as if to say, “I’m in charge here, not you”.
Allied to that assertive body language, is a quiet but natural
authority that gets the respect of the players. His positioning
last night was top draw, selling the decisions and leaving the
players in no doubt as to what he gave.
The nonsense being spoken about the Brighton winner being a
handball can be cleared up quickly. The initial ball hit Lamptey
on the elbow, accidentally. Then there were a few more attempts
by Chelsea to clear the ball before the ball was played over the
top to hit the Brighton player on the shoulder. Legitimate goal
and VAR wouldn’t have overturned it if it was in use.
So well done to Jarred Gillett, his firm refereeing ensured an
excellent game of football.
