I watched the whole game on game of the day and I don’t think it
was England’s finest game. He let a lot go and MacAllister was
very lucky not to be off.. especially when Slot subbed him
fairly briskly after his high challenge.
The Van Dijk card but no free kick was bizarre and
incomprehensible.
Chants of the referee is a scouser could easily be heard on the
television which I personally detest as a fan of the game.
As for VAR, the less said on this matter the better. I think the
tea lady would have done a better job!

Any comments on this one? Blatantly wrong positioning of the
line by several on field inches. Those few inches could have
been all the difference between Milos being onside or not. I
have no idea whether if drawn correctly, as you would expect it
to be, would have made a difference or not. To the naked eye he
looked off but it was certainly closer than it appeared from my
view of it.

Yes - the attacker was offside.

Fair enough - I drew my own line over the top and moved it to
where it should have been drawn and no it didn't make a
difference to the call. Still shoddy work with the lines though!
That's no attacker that's our awesome left back!

disagree with the original strength of tea if it's within
tolerance

Though if John Brooks and Darren Bond were working together they
might make quite a decent pot of tea.

Not totally convinced. No red line is showing. Confess to
being baffled as to how VAR deals with margins of error but have
heard that it is incorporated into the thickness of te lines.
Putting aside that, to me, the line seems remarkably thin if all
sources of error are included then we need to consider what
would happen if the second line was drawn in. Logically the red
line should be touching the front of the attacker’s toe but then
the thickness of line should be away from the goal. It is
pointless if the thickness goes the other way. So if we were to
apply the red line in this manner and put the blue line in the
correct position then they could overlap, which again logically
would say onside or the assistant referee’s call.
I repeat the disclaimer that I do not understand how marins of
error are arrived at but if logic as it appears to me ishould be
applied then the misplacing of the line as well as looking
incompetent may be significant. Of course it may also be that
part of the torso is offside, in this case the margins of error
would probably be much greater as camera angles likely add a
greater possibility of uncertainty.
I assume, rembering that ‘assume’ is sometimes renamed as
‘making an as of u and me’, that the semi automated system makes
a sensible assessment of the errors and the outcome is the
result of the most favourable assessment of the errors to the
attacker.

I did draw a line over the blue line and move it to where it
should have been drawn. No idea if it's the right thickness and
I wouldn't know where to start with the margin of error line. My
feeling is that he was offside!
