Josh Smith : Blackburn vs Preston

Half time so far and it’s been a masterclass so far , ok he
hasn’t had a great deal to do but he has got the utmost respect
of hthe players , a few late challenges earliy on would have
had some refs produce YC’s to keep a lid on it but Smith had a
word with the culprits and its worked so far , he has let the
       game flow aswell
Welll the penalty to Blackburn is soft but not wrong in my
opinion I’m sure others will disagree with me

I agree with you on the penalty incident. It depends how we are
now viewing head-to-head contact. I don’t think you can class
that as a head collision. Like I think the B’Burn player (Hyam)
heads the ball across goal but the Preston player (Whatmough)
kind of comes up from under him and heads him in the chin. (I
know people will disagree with me here too) but yes it’s a
challenge for the ball but he comes in late (the ball is gone)
and he totally takes out the Blackburn player.
Put it this way, if you think back to when the Pedro Saliba
incident was a penalty then I think this is sufficient for a
       penalty too

The Preston penalty incident ( not given ) is understandable ,
he jumps for the ball unfortunately his arm makes contact with
the Preston players face but he isn’t late unlike the Blackburn
one that was given at least that’s the way I think Smith saw it
I agree with the timekeeping part though

Questionable ending for him really. If he doesn’t give the first
penalty then I think the one at the end doesn’t get talked about
much. In the matter of consistency, the one at the end is
probably a penalty. Jumps with a leading arm into his face and
doesn’t even head the ball. Once again though, could anyone tell
me when an incident like that was last given as a penalty? Cause
I can’t remember a penalty for an arm in the face.
‘You’re not fit to referee’ rings around the ground. Let’s hope
the Preston fans don’t follow the pattern of a minority of
Arsenal fans cause I’m 100% certain Josh Smith isn’t a Blackburn
       fan.
Apart from final 5 he had a very good game

If you're going to award a penalty for the head-on-head
collision, Smith must have deemed it a foul. If it was a foul,
it must surely be a red card for serious foul play, as Whatmough
       has endangered the opponent's safety.
Otherwise, I would leave it alone and treat it as an accidental
head-on collision. Get the physio on and restart with a drop
       ball to the GK.

So you don't think it's a foul, but if it is a foul then it's
       SFP? Very strange logic...

Shame that he missed that the head on head contact was only
possible because the attacker was using his arms on the other
defender to gain height.(As is traditional this is IMHO)
